Just thought I'd create a thread for this - looking back over the last year, I thought I'd done a thread here as well as on Priority Club.

Just left HSW after a great stay. 2 rooms..had sister and her husband with us. Check in was in the lounge..so easy. Great service in the lounge in the evenings and for breakfast. Staff so helpful. One of our bests stays at HSW and Australia won(against the French) despite it being the most boring test ever!

Hilton New Orleans Riverside

Booked: Standard King

Received: Standard King

No real recognition. Staff member was very bored and gave a half-coughd welcome back but that's about it. Coupons for a coffee and one food item provided as breakfast. Additional $10+++ for restaurant breakfast. Two bottles of water provided at checkin. Received the room booked on a low floor with no view.

Seems to be the norm at these big American conference hotels now.

A really good stay. The lounge is excellent for both breakfast (eggs to order and most other things) and evening drinks (including a comprehensive selection of hot and cold foods) all accompanied by professional and friendly service. Room over looking the river was very comfortable once the complexities of the electronics were mastered. It had an excellent rainforest shower and a Japanese style toilet which did everything except poor the coffee. The bed was the best I've had in a hotel. The hotel is well located for the ICN airport bus (50 minutes) and about 5 minutes walk from the metro) It is stylish and attractive. All up, one of the better hotels I've stayed at

All good. Usual friendly and professional service in the lounge and it was not very busy on a Sunday night/Monday morning. Comfortable room and bed and a readily offered late check out at 4.00pm. Like the hotel a lot.

Thanks for the reports turtlemichael!
I'm a big fan of Conrad hotels and you just reminded me I need to book accommodation in ICN & HKG for later this year :)

Must say Hilton have been nice to us this trip.
several hotels booked with points from mrsdrron's account. She is silver but at a Hilton,DT and HGI in the UK she got full brekkie, internet access, waters and even a bottle of jellybeans thrown in at the DT Sheffield Park.
Even here at the NRT Hilton we are getting the wifi comed by me showing my gold card even though mrsdrron's points booking.

Booked: Twin Hilton Guestroom
Received: Twin Hilton Guestroom

Booked a Twin Room for my business partner and I, and mentioned in the comments that, if available, a 2 Bedroom Suite would be much appreciated ;)

On check-in, the Agent said 'we've got you for one night staying in a Twin Room...' - at this point I asked if an upgrade to a 2 Bedroom would be available. She typed for a few minutes, umed and ahhed, and then said she'd go out the back and ask. That's normally a good sign, so I was confident, but alas, she came back and said it wasn't but they'd be please to offer me an amenity in lieu of an upgrade (gone are the days where you got both! ;) ) Asked what my preference was, Shiraz, beer etc. Went with Beer and Nuts....unfortunately it never arrived. No card from the GM either.

Wasn't feeling the love this trip...only the 9th floor, and wasn't even a city view room. Ouch.

Beers in the Lounge that night were average too, only James Boag on offer - no more White Rabbit :(

Comfortable stay as always though - great hotel.

Interesting....

Was a 2-bedroom available for sale at the time of checkin?

That's what I always check as I walk into the hotel.

I did check, and there actually wasn't, but I have a feeling the one she was checking on was actually assigned to someone else as an upgrade.

I checked in about 5pm, so maybe I was too late?

I wonder if securing the reservation with a credit card helps with upgrades? I never do it unless it's an AP, but perhaps they don't assign upgrades to people who aren't confirmed until checkin?

I once had a manager at HSW apologise to me because she assigns room upgrades for Diamonds and VIP's the morning and I hadn't booked until noon the day of arrival - which meant she missed me.

That's interesting, because my upgrades have always shown (usually early) during the night prior to arrival, and well before morning. Maybe it's whenever it suits them.

HOTP usually the evening before arrival.Sydney and Brisbane usually late morning on the day of arrival.Although was shocked when my last stay at Brisbane showed 4 days before .

Conrad hong kong same time as Princess and Shrek
booked peak view , changed dates about 4 times
Met princess in lounge as was checking in there ."is there a harbour view room"
Are you sure sir we have you in a peak view suite!

Currently at HOTP
now 4/4 this year for relaxation suite here

HSW stays this year 2 but in suites already so hard to get an upgrade!

Hilton sydney
Ive got a higher floor *S*

My personal belief is that it relates to how many times you have stayed there in a year

AM at Hilton sydney tomorrow
Be interesting to see how i go seeing as I'm arriving after the lounge shuts
Last time i did that i got a larger room but that was at the desk at the time from a very competent front desk manager

Note to self
Do not check in HOTP at 645 PM when an A380 worth of flight attendants are checking out!

Can you check in at the EL @ HOTP? It would make it so much easier.
Most of the hotels I have frequented have very streamlined practices for Air Crew check in & out procedures to alleviate them milling around the reception/cashier areas for check in & check out.
Some properties have dedicated crew rooms where this can be done as well.
But you are talking about the EK crew..
