How do Hertz treat you as an Elite?

Hertz upgrades are rubbish, I am doing very well over at Europcar in both Australia and NZ with far far newer cars and far better upgrades time after time and that's only with a much lower status level

As PC with Hertz you would be lucky to get a 1 class upgrade
As Privilege Executive which is the 2nd lower tier I always get an upgrade or a double or triple upgrades even to Mercedes :)

Recently a few Avis locations have been "downgrading" me to a hatch from an SUV. Then upgrading me to a full size 4wd. Blatant abuse of the system. I love it.

Europcar hmmm?

Avis does appeal with it QFF points.

But I'm quite fond of the yellow and black....

Care to share? Is there another Hertz unwritten benefit (;)) that I'm missing out on?

It's a combination of factors that makes the whole rental process run smoothly. I hire cars at least twice a week, mostly for business and can't be bothered dealing with any issues like billing, damages, fuel receipts or any other unnecessary hassles that waste my time. I saw how others are treated by Hertz (bad!) and I'm glad they at least value my loyalty in that regard.
Yes, upgrades are not as good as they used to be but being a regular does have it's perks and when I really need a special car like SUV for moving stuff or something more sporty for long distance driving, I do get it. About 90% of my rentals are for 24hr or less so as much as I would like to get BMW X5 or Toyota 86 every time, it's not such an important factor to become a deal breaker.

A couple of nice upgrades last week:
SYD - Corolla to X-Trail
BNE - Corolla to Outlander

I am Hertz Five Star and hardly receive upgrades. But I do book the cheapest possible cars which plays a part in the whole upgrade process.

In saying that I was upgraded to a Toyota Corolla on the weekend at BNE airport as they ran out of the smaller cars.

Has anyone experienced Hertz not posting points correctly to Gold Plus Rewards?

It seems whenever I 'Pay Now' on a rental when booking, I get zero points posted - I assume because at the conclusion of the rental it shows that I paid nothing...having prepaid for the rental.

This is really frustrating and it took Hertz almost a month to reply to emails I sent. When they did eventually manually credit 1 of the rentals (out of about 7) they only credited base points and not my bonus points.

Does anyone have a direct email for someone at Hertz in Aus who can sort this out for me - it seems petty I know, but we're talking about several hundred points here, and probably enough for a free days rental, so I want to follow it up.

When you click on 'Pay Now' your getting a cheaper rate which as a school of thumb doesn't earn any points (FF or Hertz Gold Plus Rewards) as our system shows the rental as having a $0 balance which is what the points would be multiplying by to gain the total points.

If your still got queries flick me a DM and I'll investigate it further.

Didn't know that. Lucky I almost never select that option as the difference between 'pay now' and 'pay later' is usually very minor.

Do you know where this appears in the T's & C's? I didn't know this either.

The differences I've seen between Pay Now and Pay Later has been as much as $40 - might not seem like much, but when you add it up over the course of the year it can be a big number.

I guess you are renting for a few consecutive days. I normally rent only for one day each time and the difference is usually around $5. To me it doesn't worth the potential headache of dealing later with changes or cancellations.

Yeah I get you...and normally I'm in the same boat, but it's starting to add up for us, and it's my business so I'm a little more conscious of my travel expenses.

I recently signed up for Hertz Gold via Amex thinking there would be some benefits. So I have just done some dummy bookings for an upcoming Europe trip. I did not sign in to the Hertz site and dummy-booked for 24 days ex Schiphol (AMS). The site spits out a Ford Mondeo manual or similar for Eu808.
Next I log-in and with same parameters it produces a Volvo S60 for ....wait for it, 10898.32EUR. Really, I am only renting, I don't want to buy it!
It's hard to compare apples with apples as each company site comes up with a different range of vehicles, but same parameters with Sixt gives me BMW3/MercC/AudiA4 for Eu863.

The Hertz Gold you get via Amex is not a status or something, it's the basic Gold membership you can sign up for free to anyway (in the US there is a fee I think, so that's why they offer it as a perk).

Problem with booking online under your Gold profile is it will default to the rate preferences you chose (or the system forces on you in absence of making a choice). It will not display the best rate.

Just made a booking for Germany yesterday: Luxury (Merc E-class or similar) for 1 week; while logged in as Gold Pres Circle: somewhere north of EUR 1,000, and with mileage restriction, 1400 kms I think.

While not logged in, it came up with a rate of EUR 497, including unlimited mileage, everything else the same. So I called up (Ph 13 30 39) and had the agent book this rate for me under my Gold profile, which was no problem at all, took 3 mins and thanks to additional 5% off for Pres Circle member only cost me EUR 472 in the end.

So as a Gold member: always watch out for other rates, and call up to book them. Painful and against logic, but that's what it is.

Thanks for the tip.

I realise the Gold Plus Rewards is not a status card. Thought I'd mention the anomaly when you log in using your registration, the rental fee is actually more...much more. ;) The card is meant to indicate your association with Amex and hence a discount rate should be applied to the booking (10% I believe).

with the amex plat charge card you get 1 level upgrade on Hertz Gold to the "Five Star" level which gives you the following
 • One-car-class upgrades subject to availability (to a maximum Full Size vehicle)
 • 10% bonus on Hertz Gold Plus Rewards Points
 • 600 Rewards Points after every 15 qualifying rentals
 • Plus, all Gold member benefits

Thanks for the tip jsoprano. I went back into my profile setup and changed some of the preferences. I now get the standard rate less 10% for the Amex connection. What's not to like about that. According to T&C's Gold Plus Rewards also gets you a rental class improvement.

I found this promotion on the Hertz site, 10% off 5 days or more rental - https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/f-17952578/europe-car-rentals-10-off-5-days-special-offer
If you print it off and present it at at check-in you should get the 10% as a refund.

Apologies for the thread drift.

I tried using the print-off offer yesterday when I collected my car in Schiphol and was told you cannot stack onto your existing member rate. They were able to demonstrate that if I wanted to use the 10% offer then it would be applied to a less attractive hire rate and I would be worse off.

All the staff at the different departments of Hertz AMS Schiphol were very helpful and friendly and very efficient. They all kept tlling me how important I was as a GPR member and that they treat Gold members (lol) very well.
I am converted here in NL.

Received a rather unusual upgrade in SYD this week from one of the smallest cars (Toyota Yaris) to one of the biggest non-prestige in Hertz AU fleet (Nissan Pathfinder).

The latest Pathfinder model drives very well!

I ordered a base model Volvo S60 Manual. I was given a Merc C180 wagon that is brand new with just 13km showing. The features in this car are anything but basic model...it is quite (very) luxurious. I feel a million bucks driving it.
Staff at Hertz Schipol really do take the Gold status thing very seriously and kept mentioning it prior to handing over the keys.
