POM hotels pretty well universally provide complementary airport transfers, which actually saves me quite a bit.

How many other cities/hotels can we list that do this?

You're in PNG? Most hotels also provide armed security and compounds so I thought the transfer was more for safety than courtesy.

I remember walking from domestic to international and 4 steps out of the airport suddenly had an unasked for police guard.

That may have been true in the '90's but POM is no worse than many places now. The razor wire is gone from the fences and the security is more for employment than anything. I have no issues with walking around POM.

90s? Umm, no. As recent as Aug 2014. I remember armed guards at and inside the gate and a local Community worker expat being bashed at her guarded apartment (she still had facial bruises when I spoke to her).

Even recently, armed robbers at Tawalli resort herded everyone to rob them.

This thread is not about PNG safety. The issues you mention happen in many places including my home of the Gold Coast. Melbourne and Sydney are worse. You don't see idiots mowing down pedestrians in POM like what happened in Bourke St.

So back on topic, how many places provide complementary airport transfers?

Can’t think of too many city hotels that provide free transfers. Often transfers are a profit centre. However, most US airport hotels provide free airport transfers, and also airport hotels in many parts of the world do as well. A standout exception to this - most LHR airport hotels do not. Often hotels in Bali, coughet etc will as part of a package.

I wasn't sure if those LAX hotel shuttles were free or not. I've used them previously, but can't remember if I paid or not.

Country comfort intercity Hotel and appartments - Perth has free airport transfers.

If you book a Club room at the Bali Intercontinental in Jimbaran bay, they’ll pick you up from either the airport or from accommodation prior to your Intercon stay, and return you to the airport in a luxury van with free wifi, cool drinks and towels. Amazing service!

We've got free (included in rate, as nothing is free) transfer staying at The Puli in Shanghai next month. Have had plenty over the years throughout Europe, Asia, North and Central America.

I don't think this is commonplace around the world, with two exceptions:

1) Airport hotels. (eg: major chain hotels in the vicinity of major airports like Narita, JFK usually offer a free shuttle transfer)

2) Cities in the developing world where expat security is a concern.

Macao to most the casino hotels have free transfers. Well mainly from the ferry terminals since that's the main way to arrive, but I'd imagine from the airport too. Frequent and convenient with free wifi (well at least to Sands).

Quite a few Singapore Hotels offer free shuttle services to/from Changi. But they run to a set schedule and do not operate 24 hours a day..

And then there are the hotels that list shuttles as part of their "service". And fail to note that it "runs" from 0700 to 1700.
I seem to remember one in TUS.......

Just wandering
Fred

PS the cabbie wasn't happy with the "short fare"

I've had complimentary airport transfers in Macau, Taipei, Manila, Chiang Mai and Bangkok airport hotels

Hyatt Place at Essendon provides a complimentary shuttle to/from MEL.

(From there you can walk across the 'tulla' to catch a tram to the city ;) )
