Hi all,

I am going on a OneWorld RTW trip in September with the Mrs and Junior (1 year). We have planned our itinerary so that we have a day's stopover in a number of places.

I have QF Platinum status, so that will help immensely with using facilities at airports. I am now starting to book hotels in each location am hoping people can give some recommendations. I am not a member of any hotel loyalty program, so now might be a good time to join.

My tastes have changed over the years from backpackers to Quest like apartments and now I am looking for reasonable priced hotels. I don't care about business facilities or gyms or swimming pools. The most important facility is free or cheap internet.

Can people recommend some hotels based on their experiences.

Singapore - stopover only prefer near airport, but anywhere is ok as Singapore taxis are cheap.
London - stopover only must be near Heathrow or have reasonably priced hotel shuttle. Taxis are expensive and bus/train is not an option with a small one and baggage.
Helsinki - prefer downtown so that we can do some sight seeing.
Tallinn - prefer downtown
Hong Kong - stopover only prefer near airport or reasonably priced hotel shuttle.

Cheers,
MrHyde

Hong Kong - stopover only prefer near airport or reasonably priced hotel shuttle.
There is a new Marriott hotel near HKG. Its at the Asia Expo site and has free shuttle bus or can use teh Airport Express train (one short stop beyond the airport).

I have booked this one for a transit I have in August (using a Marriott points for an award stay). It is generally cheaper than the on-site Regal hotel (which is most convenient) and cheaper than the Novotel Citigate which is the only other hotel I have used near HKG airport.

So certainly worth considering for your needs.

I am also doing a OW Award trip to Europe as well in August.

For Helsinki, I will be staying at Holiday Inn Helsinki City-Centre. It is next to the terminus of the airport bus 615 and Finnair Airport Bus. I will be staying on PointBreaks though. So no idea about actual prices.

I am only doing a day trip to Tallinn so cannot recommend any hotels there.

For London I will be either be staying at Hilton Islington or Holiday Inn London-Bloomsbury. But if you want to stay near Heathrow, there should be plenty of hotels around 50pounds per night ...

Singapore - stopover only prefer near airport, but anywhere is ok as Singapore taxis are cheap.

For near the airport, the Crowne Plaza at T3 is nice for a 1 night stopover. Otherwise I have stayed at the IC, Hilton and Sheraton which are all nice

London - stopover only must be near Heathrow or have reasonably priced hotel shuttle.

Which terminal will you be arriving/departing from. Although not cheap, the new Sofitel is v conveniant for T5 being attached to the terminal and the Hilton is connected to T4

Outside the airport, I stay at the Holiday Inn on Sipton Rd; v close to the airport and can get there for free using London buses ( or can pay GBP3 for a Heathrow Hoppa if desired). Other than that I would recommend any of the hotels eastbound from airport on Bath Rd since , again, these can all be accessed for free using London Buses. I would avoid hotels like the Crowne Plaza which are out by J4 of the M4 since you do need to take the Hoppa service to get there

When checking the price for the Heathrow hotels, do watch out since many these days quote exclusive of VAT so there is another 15% to add on

I have found prepaid rates at around GBP40

Hong Kong - stopover only prefer near airport or reasonably priced hotel shuttle.

For this I have used the Regal which is attached to T1. Other options nearby are a Marriott and Novotel

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I have just come across hotel price finder from another thread and that is really good.

For London, I am considering Hotel Ibis Heathrow. At just over $100, that seems very reasonable for a 1 day stop over.
