I need to choose between the following hotels in Kensington and am looking for some personal experiences and comparisons

Millennium Gloucester
Hilton Kensington
Holiday Inn Kensington

Dave...

Sorry to say I havenn't stayed at any of the hotels you listed, but I did stay at the Marriott in Kensington two weeks ago, which is just up the road from both Holiday Inn's.

There are two Holiday Inn's almost oppposite each other, Holiday Inn Kensington is made up of old terraces (well that is what we call them in Australia), from the outside it looked quite nice...

Holiday Inn Kensington-Forum is almost directly opposite, and is a tallish typical English looking building (I mean, it looks dark and boring).

I haven't been inside either hotel, but both are within 3-4 minutes walk of Glouster Road Tube Station (which is on the District/Circle & Piccadilly Lines), they are both on the A3 for good road connections to pretty much most places.

I did pass the Hilton at some point, but honestly can't remember that much about it. If I remember correctly, it is more in Kensington proper rather than being closer to the main road/transport.

Well I hope this helps, even if a little bit.

Arrhh, used to live near Kensington too  . No recent experience, but obviously Hilton & Holiday Inn have frequent stay programs you may want to consider. For eg. stay 3 nights at a Holiday Inn and get free Ambassador status (for InterContinental).

Have you checked www.tripadvisor.com :?:

stayed at hilton kensington last year july. booked 2 guest rooms and received upgrades to higher floor due to my HH status, also had free breakfast and lounge access.

* location wasn't too bad, its a good 5 min hike to and from the holland park tube station.

* upgraded rooms are quite small.

* bus stop in front of the hotel.

we did use the tube to LHR and the journey wasn't the easiest with 1 x 30kg luggage on wheels, as the trips involve a change of tube line.

there were four of us and we had shared a cab to the hotel and from memory, came to around 35 pounds.

however, at only 65 pounds/night/room so got no complaints there!

hilton kensington

hi i stayed at hilton kensington in Nov. and hope to go back next Nov. Compared to the previous hotel I stayed in Paddington in '04 I thought the room was very nice, clean and very adequate. I too am hhilton member and automatic upgrade to better room, with free breaky plus drinks and nibblies in the evening. I booked another room for my daughter and didn't get an upgrade but it was ok by London standards. :) I think the location is very good as I like to walk and consider it no distance to walk into the city. So much to see along the way makes it no effort walking past parks, etc. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Just watch the room fridge, if you move items to put in your own bottles, food, etc. it is automatic billing to your room. No problem though when I explained at the desk, no confusion. Also as you probably know, the hotel often has advanced purchase price and can purchase room abt. 63-65 pounds. I booked a bus into the hotel from a/port, can't remember the cost but not expensive and worth the hazzle free. cheers, trish :D

Recently stayed at the Hilton, wasn't really that impressed with it.

Checkin staff indifferent, room a little bit musty and small (not entirely unexpected for London of course!)

I was very impressed with being given floor 1 of the hotel too ...

There are much better Hilton's in London, some that are around the same rate.

UK Hiltons seem to fall into two categories. I am not sure if the ownership difference is still valid, but they used to be owned by either Hilton UK or Hilton International. There was a big difference in the quality of the brand between the two ownerships.

Hilton Paddington, Heathrow and Metropole (and perhaps a few others) were part of the Hilton International ownership. Some of the other London properties are Hilton UK ownership. All the non-London properties are Hilton UK.
