Booking a hotel in HK for an upcoming trip next month and I was wondering if anyone has booked through Hotels.com recently?

Do they charge a foreign transaction fee? The prices are displayed in AUD but it's been a while since I last booked any overseas accomodation.

The credit card I want to use has a 3% charge for overseas transactions.

Thanks in advance.

i would book with 28 degrees or a card that has free international transactions just in case. i'm in the same boat as you but as much as i want to use my amex or other MC/Visa card to get points, i'm going to use 28 degrees

also just saw this as well too

For example, if you make a booking using a card issued in a different country from the Travel Provider's location or you choose to transact in a currency that is different from the local currency of our Service, your card issuer may charge you an international or cross-border transaction fee.

Have you checked other OTAs? Many charge in AUD (no fee). Including QF Hotels (they use Expedia engine but don’t always have everything that Expedia displays).

If you search the hotel on TripAdviser, you’ll see which OTAs are selling those rooms.

Thanks for suggesting Qantas hotels. They seem to be charging the same price as hotels.com

So qantas hotels definitely charge in AUD with no foreign transaction fees?

Yes, and you get QFF points!

Sorry a little off topic.

I thought hotels.com changed their rewards system?
But when I search, I am still seeing these "collect 10 stamps get 1 reward night"
what's going on?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I don't think the new system has been completely rolled out. It was being done region by region.

Definitively: the Australian version of the hotels.com website (I still manually enter the web address as au.hotels.com) charges in AUD and conducts the transaction in Australia.

I routinely put accom booked through that site on my CBA credit card and do not pay o/s transaction fees.
