Hop over to LA for a short break? Worth it?

Agreed - it's a stunning drive, I just wish I'd had more time doing it (I drove from LA to SF over two days). Hearst Castle is amazing.
You need to do 2 or 3 different tours to really get a good look at Hearst Castle. .... and it is worth every minute.

Yep, I'm definitely keen to go back and see some more of it - though I'd much rather do that drive with someone else instead of being by myself next time.

It's actually quite scary getting off a flight and going on the drive south from SFO as the passenger. It's a long way down some of those cliffs.

Sorry, cant let that one pass.

WTH did they do to your hair that it took them a day to do it?

Puts advanced hair to shame........

It was an hour's drive each way from/to LA. The actual haircut and colour took about 2 hours. We then spent some time at South Coast Plaza, one of my fave shopping malls. :D

Ah, yes, South Coast Plaza.

So essentially 2 hrs hair, rest of day shopping. That sounds more like it :)

I was thinking of a similar short LA trip myself from Perth. AA show a Perth - LA rtn for $1205 although it goes via Syd and Tokyo both ways, maybe more pain than it's worth.

More than you think if you are after QFF Point/AAdvantage miles.

All segments book into Q class which earn of the carrier's flight number but not the partners.

So if you credit all your flights to QFF you would earn Qantas FF points PER-//-NRT but not NRT-//-JFK.

Conversely, credit all to AAdvantage and not earn PER-//-NRT.

It can be done on individual segments but it's a PITA!
