Does anyone know when Qantas or Jetstar will release their Classic Award seats for Honolulu to Sydney for the month of May 2014. I intend to use my frequent flyer points for 2 seats either on 30 May 2014 or 31 May 2014. I have been checking on a daily basis (at least 3 times a day) since April 2013 ! and there are no seats shown from April 2014 to August 2014. Currently there are heaps of award seats for February and March 2014. I am not sure why. I called the Qantas Frequent Flyer office and they also checked and confirmed what I have found out. They will not advise as to when these seats have or will be released. They only advised to continue checking daily.

April is when the airlines often change schedules and routes, perhaps there is a change in the winds, maybe going 787 with JQ only.

Not sure what's going on with the HNL/SYD flights however your best bet would be to do a Partner/Classic award on Fiji Airways (FJ) HNL/NAN who have availability on Fri 30 May FJ852 0055/0750+1 so you'd be checking in at HNL Airport late evening on Thu 29 May.

The points required would be 25,000 plus USD2.50 taxes per person. Then you could purchase a one way airfare NAN/SYD on the FJ website for approx AUD322.00 (FJD546.30).

The NAN/SYD airfare would probably be similar to the taxes you would've paid had you been able to book a Classic Award on QF HNL/SYD but that would've been about 36,000 points so you're in front points wise.

Are you able to provide more info in regards on who to actually ring (fees, charges for example with qantas phone bookings)?

Found this topic via search just now, in which I would require fri nov 28th, 2014.

If I remember correctly, fiji airways is 365 days you cqn book in advance, but qantas is 353 days.

The cost of 25,000 points, is that U class ASA/Classic rate?

Forgot to add, it will be to Melbourne as the final destination.

You don't need to call anybody as it can be booked online on the QF website as a Classic/Partner award.

Make sure you tick the box that says "show classic awards only" otherwise it will show you points & pay options which will show some ridiculously high amount of points plus a cash outlay.

You could also look at the retail airfares for sale on www.fijiairways.com HNL/MEL or using their multi city tool for availability HNL/NAN & NAN/MEL if you wanted to stopover in Fiji on the way back.

What are the arrangements for getting there ie MEL/HNL?

It would only be economical to purchase a one way airfare if it was an airline who prices their fares as one way fare components eg AUD599.00 one way or AUD1198.00 return ie you are not charged more if only booking a one wsy fare.

Full service airlines such as QF & HA charge a lot more for a one way fares than JQ/FJ/NZ.

However, if your Classic Award includes travel on at least two oneworld® Alliance Airlines other than Qantas, and does not include travel on any airline that is not a oneworld® Alliance Airline, the points required will be calculated using the oneworld® Classic Award table, and will be based on a return itinerary.
