Hong Kong free flight give-away

we need to see if hkg will ever go to 0+0 - which i highly doubt, because this decision despite its from hk government, but also need to appease those up north in Beijing, but according to people's daily in china, it is NOT likely to do so - and besides it is a bad time to travel to hk now (or this part of the world in general) - i hate to spread fear but this region is a war zone - especially Taiwan and HK!

True, but if the tix are free then I'll be monitoring this.

What's the bet their website crashes, however, if they get a lot of people clicking?

With HKG opening up, the government is trying to get tourist going to HKG again. So they are giving away tickets over the next few months. Australian market will start from May onwards:

Cathay Pacific

Yes, it is Economy only.

Oh well after what has happened since 2019, it would take a lot of effort and money to try to convince people to visit HKG again.

Especially while so many countries require PCR test just prior. It's a way off yet. It's had its day.

It is a huge mountain to climb to entice the foreign travelers to HK again after 2019, and for me as a person born in the city before moving to Australia, I do NOT recommend people going to HK or apply to this scheme, the personal details will of course go to CX as the airline need these passenger details for the tickets, but possibly to HK government (which I DO NOT TRUST!)

I think this scheme would attract people who are going to HK anyway to visit relatives more than anyone else. They cannot avoid going back to HKG as there are a lot of cases where the parents stayed at HK when their kids migrated overseas.

Your comment is true and accurate, but to the government aim of these tickets are aimed at tourists to begin with… I am looking forward to seeing how effective this campaign will be 🙂

I don't think the government cares what kind of tourist goes to HK, they just want numbers at this stage. I am sure they will get a video of some tourists saying how good HK is soon.

They will definitely get that video for sure… but how they will get it is the question (as in whether they are genuine feelings of these tourists is the question)🙂

Just curious.. what are they going to do with my name and Aus ID?

CX often would have “companion fare“ sales. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s how this might manifest itself. As the articles suggest a type of BOGOF promo.
