Has anyone had the same experience, QF has just dropped HK out of their countries in NE Asia for qualifying in a circle pacific or circle asia fares. China on the other hand is still in NE Asia. Does anyone follow the logic on this?

I think HKG has always been SE Asia. It prevents you using HKG as a base to visit multiple place in China and makes it more difficult to visit China if you want to route back Japan.

There should not be any issue with Circle Pacific fares. You can do any points in Asia so long as you stay within the mileage limits. The only Asia limitation is that travel cannot include countries west of Thailand. And since HKG is east of Thailand, it is ok.

There is no North Asia vs South East Asia designation for Circle Pacific as far as I am aware.

I have just came back yesterday from a Circle Asia Trip. If you look at the Oneworld rules for the Circle Asia Fare, Hong Kong is part of SE Asia and has never been included in NE Asia. I have to visit at least one NE Asia country, in my case it is Tokyo. My trip was

My mistake - the OP was referring to Circle Pacific rather than Circle Asia

Circle Pacific makes no differentiation between North or South Asia. It only restricts travel west of Thailand.
