What a difference a day makes, the following day we went back out into town and there was no crowds, the holidays must be over. Sure it was still a bit busy but back to normal Beijing. It was a day of doing nothing other than a bit of shopping and I also took the girls to the Silk Market and nothing was purchased.

Time to return to AU, I was not worried about the Girls as they were on CX back to ADL, I on the other hand was flying CX then QF on seperate PNRs. I had wondered if CX would issue my QF boarding pass so I could just transit and stay airside in HGK. As QF checkin would not have opened for several hours I had contacted SST to see what arrangements they may be able to make in case this occurred. They were helpful and advised that I should check in online and they would make arrangements for my boarding pass to be available at the QF lounge. I explained that if I do not have the onwards boarding pass I may not be able to go back airside and into the lounge to collect it. That did not seem to be an issue for SST who then advised that if I did up end landside give them a call and someone from the lounge would bring it out so I could get back through immigration. In the end it was not required, after a few grumbles by the CX checking staff they printed my QF boarding pass.

During the taxi to PEK and I discovered another road rule - on a highway stay in the center most lane (near the median strip) then at the last minute cut across 2-3 lanes of traffic to take the airport exit. Getting through security and immigration was not bad by CN standards, off to the CX lounge then over to the BGS Lounge (PP) which was closer to our departure gate, neither lounge was that flash. CX Regional J back to HKG then straight into the Pier F Lounge, I asked MrsM and MissM did they want to go to the QF lounge and was immediately given blank looks an asked why “this is so much better” so they remained in the Pier for the remainder of the day. Although I had my QF boarding pass, I did wander down to the QF lounge to collect the one that had been pre arranged and as I approached the lounge entrance it was there waiting for me. I stayed for a quick drink then back to the Pier to catch up with the Girls who had not really moved.

Finally dropped the girls off at the CX gate for a flight to ADL and then I headed down to the QF lounge for the flight back to MEL. Another trip over, next trip will be back to China for the Harbin Ice Festival then Sapporo for the Snow Festival.
