I'm wanting to hear about queues and baggage etc at SYD International (Terminal 1) ?

For domestic trip it is easy to HLO as usually no more than 4 days there isn't the liquid restrictions that apply for international. However if luggage is delayed more than a day internationally will really impact holiday.

Check-in only opens 4 hours ahead of international flights, and less for early morning flights since SYD is not open 24*7 - has anyone departed terminal 1 in last few days?

What are the Qs like at Sydney international? Flying out at 11am on Sq in J tomorrow (Good Friday) and wondering what time to arrive at airport. I note Sq checkin opens at 4 hours prior but really don't want to arrive that early. :(

Wot? You mean you are not in the queue already? ;)

While this airport ā€œchaosā€ may only be short lived while things normalise, I wonder if a slightly more coordinated data set might be useful for AFF members over the next few weeks.

Perhaps members travelling could list:

Departure port & terminal:
Date:
Time:
Queue used: Premium/general:
Time to pass security:
Lanes available & Lanes open:
Comments:

Just a suggestions of course. Happy to add data points when I travel on a Tuesday and Friday next week.

Thu 14th, 12:30pm. No queue for security screening at Sydney T2, but noticed a massive queue for Jetstar checkin/bagdrop (out the building and along the footpath past the still-closed VA lounge priority entry door). Moderately long q for VA checkin/bagdrop.

NTL is crazy busy, but only took me 10 mins to get through security. Most flights are delayed and there isnā€™t many seats vacant. But nothing like Sydney it would seem.

Although apparently the airport is out of gin.

That's no good especially before a long weekend! Hope you're flying VA or JQ so you can get one on board ;)
On JQ with a max bundle - Iā€™m set.

I even have two lime wedges in my cabin bag ready to goā€¦

I made do with two captains and coke in the terminal. One does not want to fly JQ sober.

We flew on this yesterday, full flight. Arrived airport at 7.25am. No line for business check in. Very short line for economy. 5 minutes to clear immigration. 25 minutes to clear security. Was through by 8am. 7/17 security lanes open. That said, we could see the line starting to lengthen behind us as we finished up. Overall, Sydney T1 is still quiet compared to pre-COVID.

Had a great time in the NZ lounge šŸ™‚

ADL fairly quite when we checked in at 1530. From entering the terminal we were in the QF Pub within 15 minutes.
Our original ADL-CBR flight was canned a few weeks back and QF put us on ADL-MEL-CBR with a 25 minute transit in MEL. About 15 minutes before we were due to board we were informed the inbound flight was 70 minutes late due to problems in MEL.
Spoke with the lounge desk attendant and he said that because there was 15 of us in the same position and our MEL-CBR was the last flight of the evening that they would ā€œmost likelyā€ hold the flight for us. He could tell that I didnā€™t believe him and then said at worst when we get to MEL they will put us up for the night and get us up to CBR in the morning. Apparently the ADL-MEL flights after ours are all delayed due to late dramas in MEL and the one of the JQ flights to MEL cancelled

Some friends just arrived at Adelaide and said it was fairly quiet for them too. They were thanking me for the lounge passes I got them

Many flights arriving into PER without bags.

One Perth woman said the pilot on her Wednesday night flight from Melbourne made the ā€œexecutive decisionā€ to take off without any luggage on board following a four-hour delay.

ā€œā€˜Iā€™m very sorry, Iā€™ve made the executive decision to fly with no luggage, because there was no one to load itā€™. ā€œIf we didnā€™t fly then, we wouldnā€™t have got to Perth, so that plane flew with no luggage.ā€

The woman said she still does not know when, or if, her luggage would arrive in Perth.

Transport Workers Union national secretary Michael Kaine said a recent ā€œmassive increaseā€ in passenger numbers combined with airlines outsourcing staff were responsible for the issue.
