Paging @RooFlyer

Looking for accommodation recommendations in Hobart for a few nights at the end of April

I'll be with some friends for 3 nights so may go AirBnB but then I'll need a hotel room for 2 or 3 nights

For the hotels, going very roughly from the lesser to the more 'fancy' (not necessarily more pricy ...)

Ibis Styles. Downtown, has some parking, new and good if you don't want to pay for bells and whistles. Accor.

Wrest Point. Sandy Bay, 10 mins Uber to the city; has a range of room types/prices from pretty basic to very fancy. Casino. Older; lots of eateries, nice ones by the Derwent.

Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel. Downtown, close to the docks (behind the Grand Chancellor). My choice when I want a good inexpensive stay. Studio rooms with kitchenette, laundry etc are good. Eat out.

Mantra on Collins. New, CBD, haven't heard anything about it.

Hotel Grand Chancellor. Downtown, on the docks. Not new, but has stood up well. I've stayed there a number of times - water facing rooms have great views. Nice bar in the lobby.

Crowne Plaza. CBD, no parking (direct you to a multi-story a few blocks away), new and good if you are into IHG. Has a nice terrace bar and has a Club.

Somerset on the Pier. On a pier in the docks, so 100% water views. Haven't stayed there,.

Maq1. On the docks, fairly new. Nice restaurants.

Movenpick Hobart. Downtown, very new. haven't heard much about it, but should be fancy. Accor.

Islington. South Hobart. boutique Hotel, 5-7 mins to the CBD. One I've loved to try, but can't afford.

... and adding that there are cabins at MONA, worth a look if that's on your agenda. There is the MONA ferry direct through to Hobart.

Mac1 simply SPECTACULAR - level of service from ALL staff equal to any hotel I have ever stayed - breakfast simply STUNNING.

Stayed for 2 nights a month ago and just cannot get back there quick enough.

Ah, yes, I forgot about the HQ! Our fruit pickers, I think. the other HQ is the Travelodge, i think, which i didn't think needed listing ....

Maq1 location is great. The hotel is nice. Here are some pictures from the basic room that doesn't face the water. IIRC I got a deal for staying here. Otherwise I thought it was a bit on the expensive side for what it is. Nothing terribly wrong, but also nothing stood out as exceptional. Our room face the street and noise in the morning was annoying. The room was large and the bathroom dressing area nice and spacious. It was also pretty dark though.

Lenna of Hobart is lovely and great location

Mona pavilions if you don’t mind being out of town

Henry Jones Art Hotel is good location too.

That is where I stay :)

Agree Henry Jones Art Hotel is good; I think for the location and hotel ‘vibe’, Maq1 is better, but I don’t know the cost relativities.

We have liked Somerset on the Pier and the old Woolstore Apartment hotel.
At the Maq 1 end definitely prefer it to the Henry Jones.
Otherwise several nice apartment blocks at Salamanca - the pick for a weekend stay for ease of access to the markets.

Don’t leave it too late, whatever you chose. Hba is Busy at mom. Remember also to register yr arrival on Tas Health website max 3 days before arrival. It’s just a contact trace thing but cud save some time queueing at the airport.

I would not stay at Mac1 again, the room is too dark, the bathroom is very dark and try putting on make up with a 10 watt bulb !

For seafood, Mures Upper Deck for a more formal atmosphere, Mures Lower Deck for bistro, Drunken Admiral ( but noisy), Fish Frenzy are all on the docks. Fish Frenzy a licensed cafe setting, with outside seats looking right over the docks; I love their seafood cones. Plus the seafood punts in Constitution Dock.

Frogmore Creek restaurant in Maq1 is consistently good.

North Hobart is Hobart‘s restaurant strip , 10 mins by Uber or Taxi from downtown.

I second Frogmore Creek at Maq1. Amazing experience. We went not all that long after it opened.

Not sure if it's still good, but had a fantastic steak at Rockwall Bar and Grill. We had planned on going to the Ball and Chain but some locals said it had gone down hill and Rockwall was a better option. We were not disappointed!

Later afternoon/sunset drinks at the Glass House was good too.

We liked both Sommerset on the Pier and the Chancellor but Mac1 looks a contender next time

+1 for the Drunken Admiral - it's an experience as well as a good meal
