HKG new lounge open

New lounge in HKG. New lounge in SIN. My thinking is that QF will upgrade lounges on all ports that are served by overnight flights. Next step is to reduce the quality of on board meals with the excuse being "but there's a shiny new lounge to eat at before so you can sleep the whole flight"

You mean continue to reduce the quality of on board meals surely.

being 'above the minions' :D

You can get the same sort of view at the SIN lounge of the check-in area. You can't help but feel sorry for them sometimes, stuck in a queue for up to half an hour while you're sitting up there with a glass of wine.

Passed through the new QF HKG Lounge last night. Have to say I was very impressed. Spent an hour and a bit in a cabana in CX' The Wing and as amazing as it was I found the rest of the offering in that lounge decidedly lacklustre. The staff in the QF lounge are some of the friendliest and most accommodating I've come across in the entire network. The QF lounge has a much better food selection - the Char Siu Fan was delicious (I had two servings) and the Dim Sum/Yum Cha cart was definitely in operation, with staff handing out bowls of pork and chive dumplings. There was a cook-to-order noodle dish which I believe was also very tasty and the buffet had some great salads, veggies and a selection of delicious desserts.

The lounge staff I interacted with (Exec Chef - Denny, Lounge Manager - Angus, Concierge - Paul and wait staff May and Alex) were all top rate, very friendly and chatty. Rumor has it the lounge opening hours will be extended. This would see the lounge open at 9am to accommodate KL, AF and possibly other ScaryTeam members.

The Bridge (the bakery on the right hand side) is where the food is at.

No contest between F&B in QF lounge Vs Wing F!

Char siu portions are tiny (3 mouthfuls of meat)...noodle dish last Sunday was awful (think ready-meal slop)....no Champagne ('Sparkling Wine' only Sir) - unless you pull a DYKWIA

Sorry, but that was not my experience at all. Not sure what all the fuss over Champagne is about either.

You must have missed in The Wing First Lounge: the A La Carte menu and buffet in The Haven along with the Champagne bar serving various top-shelf drops - all provided by The Peninsula Hotel in HK

Having just made WP, I need to go and check this out on my next HKG trip :). Do they serve Krug?

No Krug, we were drinking Delamotte on the weekend for the HK Do and they usually have a few other choices

I dropped in on the QF lounge Monday evening. Asked for real Champagne. Was told "computer says no as you are not in F". So if you fly F, then they bring out the real Champagne from a door on the right hand side just as you enter the toilet corridor. It is one of the 'hidden' type white doors. I spoke with a pax that got served real bubbles and he noted that he was flying F as well. I did also watch as he was escorted to a reserved table (he & his female +1).

We also had the pork from behind the bar. And yes the bar staff were excellent with the friendliness and nature. We found the QF HKG lounge 'cold' in feel. May be it was bad timing, but most of the 2 seat dining tables were all reserved. Which forced us to near where the TV section was towards the front of the lounge. And we needed to move tables (USB / power on one side) twice as the USB ports were intermittent in their charging.

But in the end we went back to the CX Wing for real bubbles, better food (IMHO), better bathing / relaxing facilities.

Sorry to say, our preference is still the CX Wing when in HK.

The QF lounge in Hong Kong is nice to look at, but I wouldn't say the food was anything outstanding. Large bowls of fairly bland salads which didn't look or taste 'expensive'. They seemed to be designed to be as cheap as possible to fill you up. The cheesecake for dessert was cut into such thin slices that a single serve couldn't even stand upright on the plate... it fell over.

The waiter service is friendly, like in Singapore, and that is certainly a notch above CX's offerings. But in terms of lounge ambiance, the F Wing wins. Not least because it is smaller and designed to accommodate far less people. i wold hate to see the HKG QF lounge at capacity before the bank of evening departures.

Sadly I was not very impressed with the QF HKG lounge after my 2nd longer visit in May (1st visit was a 5 min quick walk through).

I was flying from HKG-SYD as a WP, lounge was quite empty when I entered, dining area though was full except for the round table which had a couple of people on it and the P1/F tables were completely empty.

I was seated near to the dining area where the TV's were, went to peruse the menu and noticed Barramundi with grilled eggplant, so I asked a lounge staff member if I could order it, she asked where I was sitting I pointed to the TV area.

She then remarked that I can only be served at the dining area, so I said fine can the 3 of us sit here, (in the empty 'P1/F' dining tables, she said no & pointed us to the now crowded round table however the 3 of us in my travelling party wanted to sit face to face and chat whilst eating.
I questioned her why can't we have 1 empty table out of 5-6 empty tables that were there and as a Platinum surely I can get a table to eat food then leave..after going around in circles for a while, she went to check with the lounge manager.
Lounge Manager came and greeted me whilst nice enough, basically explained that I can't sit there and only option is round shared table, I mentioned that this lounge is a disappointment and devalued for Platinum's, he disagreed and I said that I am heading off the Wing F where at least I get proper F lounge fare and service in a nice way, he then compromised and agreed to allow me to eat at the TV area (there are tables there so not sure why its ok to have buffet food there but not menu food).

I have been to QF SIN lounge many times and think it's great, HKG is definitely well behind, get the feeling unless you are F or P1, you don't feel welcome and are treated accordingly.

Suffice to say I will still frequent my favourite CX F lounges in HKG rather than QF until Platinum's are given some benefits other than what is given to a Qantas Club member.

Agreed, except I wasn't even that impressed with its look.

It wasn't much fun. I rocked up for the BNE flight and it was chockers with the pax for SYD, MEL and BNE. Very hard to get a seat in the dining area. I didn't get offered anything to eat, didn't see the fabled yum-cha trolley so settled for the buffet which was no better than a domestic QP.

SIN, on the other hand, was great, the made to order food was tasty and the staff attentive.

It'll be alright when it's finished.

I am back again in November for the HKG DO and a lounge crawl is planned for the Monday after the DO.

The food on offer on Sunday looked disappointing.

We are not all the same.

Agree on that front. I much preferred the barramundi a few weeks ago, and at that time, I mentioned to the staff that it was good to have a reasonable choice in both Asian (roasted pork) and western (barramundi) styles. Looks like that got enhanced. Having said that, what was on offer in a way suited my taste, but obviously that's not going to suit everybody, and we're quickly heading back to the discussion we had about the SIN lounge.

And at this lounge, a WP is basically treated as everyone else. If you want to be treated a little special, you'll need to be a WP1, CL, or flying F.
