G'day,

Is a PIN required for credit card use in HKG (AmEx & Visa) or is a signature satisfactory?

I continue to sign here in Oz, but I have no idea where my PIN notifications might be lying around the house in case I need them for the trip . Otherwise, a call to bank required yesterday.

Many thanks!

Most amex cards dont have pins (unless its a NAB card etc) so I wouldnt worry about that.
The only place I had a problem was China.

Have had no issues in Hong Kong with signing using my Amex.

Even if you do have a pin for your Amex (Normally given out for purposes of getting cash advances) , it may only work in ATM's.

I have no trouble with just signing on both Amex & Visa in both HKG & Mainland China.
Though I tend to use them for just for accommodation & dinners. The few shops I have used them in HKG were no trouble either.

I rarely use my personal credit cards in HK. But when I have used them, no problem with signing. And the corporate Diners Club card used for hotels and train does not have PIN so must sign without any problems.
