Hi all,

Heading up to HK and Singapore for work for a week each on business... Any recommendations for things to do / easy going site seeing for down time in the evenings and weekends?

Also any recommendations for a HK tailor... After some more business shirts

cheers

HKG:
Tailor: Mr Johnny - Misbah Fashions , Suite 532C, 5th Floor, Star House, Kowloon (directly opposite where the Star ferry docks at Kowloon).

Stanley markets are worth a look, as is Stanley Ma Hang Park, nearby. Take the tunnel there and go over the top on the way back for some good views.

SIN:
I really liked the zoo. As well as a great zoo, its good for just wandering around in. Little India is fun, but plunge into the laneways and building complexes; get off the main roads.

Just back from HKG. we found the trip to Stanley from Central is best on Bus 6X for a direct run through the tunnel, and then if you want the long trip back over the top there is a choice of buses from Stanley. Some good places to eat along the waterfront before you journey back.

We took the ferry out to Lamma Island from Central - it was an interesting trip around the end of the island. Had lunch at the "Waterfront" restaurant, that has an eclectic menu, but was very good for seafood.

Night stroll along Temple Street market from Jordan Road can be fun - cheaper market than the Ladies Market at Mong Kok.

My wife makes me take a couple of Star Ferry rides a day, which at around HK$2 is pretty good value (take the upper deck). Quite a nice little excursion late in the evening.

Is Hong Kong a better place to visit than Singapore ?

Almost an impossible question to answer, both are so different in so many ways.

Best option would be to spend some time in each and then make an educated decision.

Agree with all of the above except Stanley Market, which IMHO is a long ride and not anywhere near as good as Temple St or the Ladies Market.

Stanley and Repulse Bay are definitely worth exploring - its very different to what you expect of HK - some (very rich) people live in standalone houses, the beaches are nice, it feels quiet and not the crowded bustling city you see on the postcards.

Murray House has some good restaurants and used to host the Maritime Museum before it moved to the Star Ferry Pier - not sure what is in that space now.
