Hi There,

My grandmother recently passed away, and in clearing out her belongings, I came across her Qantas ticket from when she flew to Australia from Vienna on QF17. The date is 10 March 1969. I was wondering if anyone had any information on the routing and aircraft that flew this route. I’m thinking it was a 707?

Thanks in advance!

If this was in the 1960s, I would say it was probably a Boeing 707. It wouldn't have been a 747 because these didn't enter service for Qantas until 1971.

Hopefully someone else will be able to fill in more gaps!

Definitely a 707 as I found a Qantas ad from the 60s with cities served by the V-jet.

Vienna is there.

Fascinating. What an interesting network they once had.
I just found this route map from 1969 and the journey could’ve been one big ‘status run’!6A24A051-8F38-4441-AE12-1E227E327E5D.jpeg

I managed to find this schedule from
1968. 10 march 1969 was a Monday and there is only a schedule on tuesdays and thursdays. And the flight number doesn’t seem to match either.

Anyone have the schedule from 1969?

Oh interesting. Just noticed that Rangoon (Yangon) is on there, where I live now. A BA 707 flight via Singapore to Darwin and on to Brisbane and Sydney. Would have been even cooler if it was the QF 707.

Not that I'd be recommending a Rangoon itinerary anytime soon - its a bit hairy here at the moment (actually its really bad)

If anything, it shows how short legged the 707 and early 747 were. Sixteen of that last schedule were gone before the mid 80s.
Out of interest, any idea on what the range for the 707 was jb? I should remember that from my RAAF days, but cannot recall. The ones we flew in were ex QF 'Seven-Ohs' from memory.

Except that QF did not introduce their frequent flyer program until 1987. I dont think Status credits came into play even then.

I came across her Qantas ticket
What was the fare?

Against the backdrop of all those stops, current nonstops seems decidedly boring.
