Hi,

I was in Melbourne for the weekend, with my family of 4 when the Qantas fleet was grounded. I am QFF SIlver, but this booking was made by my partner. We as both QC. We had to be back in Sydney on Monday and couldn't get through to Qantas on the phone or website but I managed to book, through a travel website, seats on Jetstar departing 6am Monday at less than our original Sunday night flights cost.

So my question is, can I rebook the original flight for some time in the future and claim back the cost of the Jetstar flights? How do I go about getting the FF points I would have earned on the original flight?
We obviously have accommodation, car hire, meals etc as well.

Thanks for you help - this is my first post...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You have a couple of options for the original flights, either rebook to another date or refund them. There are no fees involved for either option. Qantas offered to pay the difference between your qantas fare and the new airfare, however I'm pretty should that only applied if you refund your qantas fare. Also as you jetstar fare was cheaper, you can't get anything anyway.

Obviously you can claim you're other extra expenses, I assume you stayed an extra night, so hotel, food, taxis.

For points on the qantas flight, I've claimed an "original routing credit". I had to submit my original e-ticket itinerary as the booking has been changed to a dummy booking. I've had one phone call to request the e-ticket but I'm still waiting to get a final answer. You could try asking of the same on your bookings.

I did all my claims via the website and they all worked fine.

Hey Red Roo,
What's the rule for compensation if there is no equivalent cabin on the other airline? I was booked in Y+ on Qantas and switched to J on Singapore. Now by my reckoning Y+ is far closer to J than to Y. The refund T&Cs don't seem to address this situation.

Hey Opusman,

I'd recommend submitting your claim and noting your situation in the "Details of expenses". This will then be assessed.

Hope this is helpful.

How long is it taking to be reimbursed for expenses incurred while grounded?

Quick question for Red Roo,

I just recieved a refund on my card for 3 of the 4 submitted claims. When I spoke to the lady on the phone the other day, she said they were all approved, and explicitly noted the one that has not yet gone through (my virgin cancellation costs). Should I give it a couple more days, or are they all processed as a batch job and it hasn't gone through, for whatever reason?

Mine came through in a couple of days.

Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app so please excuse the lack of links.

I placed a small claim a week ago - three nights in a hotel and meals a week ago and have heard nothing. Claim was well under the $350 limit.

I put my claim in over a week ago and likewise have not heard anything.

Can anyone confirm if all passengers affected by grounding should not only get the free flight + bonus points + another freebie ?

My wife (Silver Qantas Club) and I (Bronze) received emails from Qantas a few weeks ago indicating that we would both receive 25% bonus points for flights up to 23 Dec.

My wife's email also indicated she would receive a pass to the First Class lounge.

We are both flying to US in Jan so the pass will be handy however - apparently it does not allow her to take a guest into the lounge - which will realistically the only time we could use the pass.

As a result of the grounding, should I be able to ask for a pass or as a lowly Bronze FF at the time of grouding I won't get a sausage more than I have done already (although when we received these emails I had flights booked to take me to Silver and indeed am now Silver).

I seem to recall a post by Red Roo indicating that all passengers affected by grounding would receive a freebie.

Would be grateful for any thoughts
