In another thread serfty mentioned that the 20% HPC discount applies to all bookings. Is this correct?

At the Cairns Hilton for a random date in March the prepaid rate for the King Hilton Guest Room is $150/night reduced to $120/night with 20% HPC discount.

The fully flexible rate for the King Hilton Guest Room with bed and breakfast is $200/night reduced to $160/night with 20% HPC discount. The prepaid rate is $170/night reduced to $136/night with 20% HPC discount.

The fully flexible rate for the King Hilton Guest Room with dinner, bed and breakfast is $230/night reduced to $184/night with 20% HPC discount. The prepaid rate is $200/night reduced to $160/night with 20% HPC discount.

Does any one see any value in the $165 advertised special apart from newspaper, which you get anyway, and access to health club? Why would you book the special and not make a normal booking from the Hilton website and apply the 20% HPC discount?

I agree with you. The thing to remember is the $165 rate is a fully flexible rate which puts it a little ahead of many of the other rates.

The same applies for using the welcome to Hilton vouchers in that you really need to pick your night and location (and availability). I'm using one on Friday night and it is a huge saving over the normal rates.

I'll re-iterate that the 20% applies to any rate bookable by either:

• Telephone call to Hilton Reservations or
• Online via Hilton Family websites.

I have booked 'pre-paid' rates with the 20% discount many times.

One needs to carefully look at these specials - note the T&C's: "Premium Club 20% member discount has been pre-applied, no further discounts apply.". This is indicative of a "standard" rate of $206.25 without HPC - and IMHO, not good value.

As an HHonors Gold, I normally get breakfast of some kind and access to "health clubs" thrown in. I often bypass these type of inclusive rates anyway.

It depends upon the nights. Often the cheapest available rate is well above the $200 mark and then the $165 is good value.
