When did that become the WC Suite by the way? It was just an 'apartment' on the website, wasn't it?

I'm sure that the same photo has been on the website for a few years now.
I have always known it as the William Clarke suite. In the couple of years I have been staying here, at least.

When i use to work at hilton on the park the willam clarke was called the Thakral room as the owners of the building than was the Thakral group[h=1][/h]

How interesting that you used to work there! I bet you have some stories to tell.

Did that suite see high occupancy? Always seems to be available.

na the suite was not used much only if there was stuff going on and for more info herd from a friend that there is some fefurb going on soon at the lobby as well as the restaurant.

The Wm Clarke that I googled was from the reign of Queen Vic. Lived in Victoria for many years. Wealthy family. Funded some interesting things, including an artillery battery, and gave some generous donations along the way.

Edit: According to a Wikipedia article, he had a townhouse "Cliveden" in East Melbourne (maybe that was part of the property on the current Hilton site?). The Cliveden Room, is off the hotel lobby, which you walk past on the way to the restaurant.

Sounds reasonable enough! Perhaps they could use that artilliary battery to demolish the place and build something attractive? (only joking.......please don't use the artilliary on me) ;)

I think I shed a tear! Growing up in Melbourne this was one of the few " Fancy " hotels in town. When I was a kid I remember going past the hotel on the train. Second only to the " Southern Cross "

If it wasn't for the forethought of Hilton, Melbourne's hotel landscape would be a lot more baron. As the 80's rolled past it lost some of its glitz but always had a strange charm. As much as I always wanted to stay as a kid, my first time was last year at the ripe old age of 32! The service was amazing! Cold enough to be 5 star but not cold enough to not be warm or to be " Clinical " I like that slightly "areyougoodenoughtostayhere" service that only a 5 star hotels can do. You got to give the staff marks for pulling that slight air of superiority off when the place looks like a 3 Star flop house at best.

Please don't "Wish" for it to become like Pullaman! If you have ever stayed at Pullaman on the Albert Park you will know what I mean.

Was upgraded from the Mercure roach room to the Pullman stain special and only dif was bed linen. Also the cheap rates they offer in poorer countries really leaves you dealing with people that would have been basic farming folk a few weeks ago.

South Whalf in a bad spot, no pool but nice rooms and staff.

I must be the only one who doesn't think South Wharf is in a bad spot?

Use your legs or get in a taxi...

Sorry, did not mean to rag out South Wharf! Close to Crown, Darklands, Restaurants and Mel's best outlet shopping.

BUT.... The location is poorly serviced by close accessible transport links. If you are on the CBD side of the city most Taxi drivers will take advantage and you can expect 10-20 mins to get across the Yarra to reception / main forecourt of Hotel.

That side of Yarra really needs a train station(s) / line or some sort of ferry / monorail to service the Southside of the Yarra. The Trams at Crown are a long walk and take awhile to get to a major hub.

I will tell my legs to get there act together and stop relying on my wheelchair. Slack wheelchair uses always compiling about petty things like distance, gradient and surface material smoothness! Who do they think they are :) They need a good kneecaping LOL ;)

its just a shame that south wharlf has no pool or spa as that was a main thing fofr me when i wanted to stay at either places when i use to work at hop as we got a high discount so i stuck with hop as it has a nice pool and a spa tho the room were drab. all up i think being run now by accor it will be btter keeped and managed.

Absolutely south wharf is a horrid location simply due to its isolation from public transportation . Hotp has a tram at the front door.

I contacted HH to ask about stays beyond the 1st of Jan (As I have a number of forward bookings at HOTP including one of the night of the Cricket World Cup Final) and they have stated that stay credits and points WILL NOT be earned on any existing bookings. Also that status with Hilton will not provide any benefit....
I have been in dialogue with the hotel's management (not HHonors). This is due to:
...
SWMBO far prefers the HOP to the HSW, we have the one booking for next May. ...
Over the 'phone I was told they treat those HHonors Diamond guests staying on "grandfathered HHonors" bookings as per Le Club Platinum. I asked for confirmation of this and received an email from the GM a day later:
Dear <serfty>,

further to your inquiry, we wish to confirm that we are holding a reservation for you at the new Pullman Melbourne on the Park (formerly Hilton) in May 2015.

We are pleased to honour your Hilton HHonors Diamond membership benefits during your stay:

• Late check-out subject to availability

  • Express check-out
  • Complimentary access to Fitness Centres and Health Clubs
  • Complimentary in-room and lobby Wifi internet access
  • Two complimentary bottles of water
  • Space-available room upgrade to a preferred room subject to availability
  • Complimentary continental breakfast for you and one guest registered to the same room each day of your stay
  • Executive Floor Lounge access

Please note, unfortunately, Hilton HHonors loyalty points will not be awarded for this stay due to the hotel re-brand.

Regards.

Still considering; but it could be as a last hurrah! (I can always credit to LeClub on check-out)

Accor Platinum should also have access to early check-in (upon availability), and a welcome drink as well (which may be pointless given lounge access).

But may I ask, what do those points actually get you? (genuine question, the program has never grabbed me)

1 point = 1 qantas point if you like

10 eur = 44 points at pullman, a little over 3 points per aussie dollar. So with 4x promo its 12 or 13 QFF per dollar spent. Not bad!
