Has anyone stayed at the Hilton Brisbane?

Any tips on which floor to get? I have booked a king deluxe room.

I heard they have been renovated like the Sydney Hilton.

Also heading up to Noosa for a couple of days, staying at the Sheraton Noosa.

Any tips for either of these hotels?

thanks

It used to be our preferred hotel in Brisbane, but they got abit funny this year. Can't comment if they have refurbished but I found it pleasant if a bit dull. The rooms are all set in a square around an atrium and the views are pretty average all round. I'd go for a high floor personally, though I have had to wait for a lift for a bit.

It's in quite a good location, a short walk from cinemas, food etc - and probably the best coffee in Brissy at Naked.

Chucksta,

I quite like the Hilton Brisbane when you can get a good rate. It often appears to be more expensive than I would expect. I have a stay there on Saturday week (23rd Feb) for the FT AGM so will report further if you wish as It's awhile since I've been there.

Pop into the Executive Club and say hi to Mark and Ruby.

If you are HH Gold/Diamond or have an Exec Room in the top floors you get access.
No free WiFi however. My preferred Hotel is the Sofitel as the Hilton is tired and in need of a drastic makeover. The rooms have been done up but a box is a box. The rooms have the box style air conditioners (added after room shell built) and in some rooms they are very noisy.
Move like me to the Sofitel and get a Club Sofitel room...you will love it:)

The exec lounge has been relocated to the 25th floor (from the split level corner ears where it used to be).

Not necessarily true anymore; they now have a general policy of giving Exec lounge access to those Upgraded to the exec floor and not others.

They also now have those "mid tier" rooms where they can upgrade Gold/Diamond to and deny Exec Lounge access.

I stayed there on Feb 1 and was upgraded to one of these "mid". When I asked about Exec access I was told no, as I had to be staying. I then asked about breakfast and was told it would not be available to me; eventually they relented and provided lounge access to I could have breakfast.

I did get automatic access with non exec lounge stays in December and January.

YMMV

I have never missed lounge access but have not stayed since November.Sometimes the lounge has been so busy at breakfast that they have had to send guests downstairs with a voucher as there has been no room:shock:
Perhaps they are now trying to cut back on lounge access for that reason.
The lounge at the Sofitel is larger and not as crowded/noisy.

I have never had any issue with lounge access, including all sort of paid and award stays. Sometimes I have been given an exec floor room (or suite) and sometimes not. But always had lounge access. But I have not stayed there in 2008 so maybe their policy has changed???

My reservation for 23rd Feb already shows an upgrade to Exec Room. :D

Is that checking on Hilton.com? I never see any upgrades on there :(

Interesting that this changed on Feb 1 - around the time that anytime awards were announced for non-Gold/Diamon and the time that the rolling teir thing was getting iffy - give with one hand take with another?

simongr,

Yes, on Hilton.com

I spoke to a lovely lady at Brisbane Hilton and she explained that they (mostly) allocate to Gold & Diamond ahead of time and it shows on the web site. She further explained that not all Hiltons operate this way.

I normally prefer Hilton to upgrade me on the day rather than before I travel.

Mainly cause whenever I'm pre-upgraded to a better room, the flex rate drops by quite a bit before I travel. I then have the dilema as to what I should do! :)
