Will be interesting who takes over the Hotel, it’s in a prime position on the mall so I imagine someone like Accor being interested .

I suspect whether Accor would be interested. The Sofitel Brisbane(which is rarely fully booked) is only about 200m away.

All the hotel chains would be interested, it’s in a good location, given it’s getting a refurb I would not be surprised to see it become a Hyatt, Accor would be keen as well, they have lost 5 hotels in Brisbane in recent times. The occupancy of the Sofitel is irrelevant.

I don’t think the owner would have ditched Hilton if it did not already have a better offer. Or it wants to go independent.

Similarly, I’m sure there’s another hotel owner in Brisbane that would love the Hilton business. Virtually guaranteed success by being the only Hilton in town.

The Sofitel was the Hilton in a past life.
As to the present Hilton the whole block is planned to be redeveloped. There will still be a hotel. Probably the developers have a preferred management but nothing has been announced yet. I think it shouldn’t be too long before plans are announced.

The Sofitel was never a Hilton, it was a Sheraton new build in the eighties and has the classic Sheraton layout with suites at the end of each floor. I was staying when the changeover occurred in Feb 2005. I miss the multi level royal suite!

I emailed the hotel about when they are opening rooms for April and beyond. They said they are closing April 1 as they couldn't renew the lease.

Sounds like this has been under discussion for a while and there was a temporary pause in September last year. Maybe the lease will be extended again. Suppose anything is possible.

it looks as though there has not been any recent building activity here.

The HGI is not going to be a suitable replacement for Hilton Brisbane, wrong brand, too small, wrong location.

I'm confident there will be a new Hilton Brisbane at some point. Have they got enough money to buy the old Treasury building?

I contemplated booking a room for the last night (I have fond memories of the hotel back to when I was a kid in the early 90s, my Dad would take us for the breakfast buffet - we lived in Brisbane so didn't stay). But looks like they're not selling 28-31 March, not sure if they're leaving this open for later or if it will actually close to guests three days early.

Good to remember that none of the staff work for Hilton - they work for the owner, so I'd imagine they won't make too much of a fuss of removing the Hilton signs. My guess is the hotel will close completely for renovations and then reopen as something else. Could they surprise us and reopen as a Conrad?

The Hilton Premium Club Asia is being re-branded as Hilton Dining Asia Pacific as of 17th July 2018.

It is a significant change, though it is still very easy to get much more than 8,000THB fee in value from the card.

My take is the dining benefits will largely stay the same (ie 50% discount using the vouchers rather than the card) but you will have more venues to use them.

The 20% off transfers and room service are a nice addition but the loss of the 50% off BAR and buy one night get one free on BAR and the Conrad Koh Samui specific discount rates are a big loss (slightly offset by the...

More like 23 years back is my recollection!

Was a really great deal, and there was a FREE Hilton night as part of it, and 2 x $100 a night buyable Hilton rooms anywhere in Australia as part of it too, and they counted as paid stays as all booked direct with Hilton.

And if you referred others to join, there were juicy extra Bennies too, I seem to remember. So a little side network of FT'ers were all into that. Free bottles of wine or upgrades etc too. And lots of $US20 a night Asian Hilton rooms! And all sorts of other goodies.

Found my post on this from 2002 - cost about $A375 per couple and both got all the bennies above

Anyone here joined the Hilton ‘Diamond Club’?

I did this month and the benefits are pretty amazing. Just received the goodie bag.

Cost is $A225 plus $A150 for ‘spouse’ if you wish another pack. (i.e. order 2 packs and average price is about $US100 per pack.) It seemed to me they'd allow you to supply any name you wished for “spouse” packet. If 2 x FT'ers wanted to join and co-ordinated it, price would then be $US100 each for a pack in the desired names.

EACH pack has:

A classy Hilton Diamond Club card in your name good for a year.

A free night at a hotel of your choice in your state. Sydney Hilton is seldom available for less than that anyway - and in my mind the entire price I paid ($US 200 for 2 nights = $US100 a room averaged) is worth it just for the two free nights there.

A card offering you "Low Corporate Rates" at set $A amounts for a bunch of Hiltons nationally. Absolutely useless to me, but bear in mind most of these 'special' rates are ABOVE the price the entire package costs! And makes the following offer look REAL nice.

Two $A100 ($US55) nights anywhere in Australian Hiltons. These qualify for a "stay" and all promotions of course as they are booked direct with Hilton. You also of course get the 500 airline "double dip" miles as well per stay.

A big bunch of Asia/Pacific Hiltons for guaranteed rates as low as $US20 night. Useful places like BB, Hanoi, Beijing, Shanghai, Japan etc. ALL of these would clearly quality for future/present deals like CNTU as they are paid Hiltons booked direct with Hilton.

SIX worldwide Hilton ‘50% off” certs each good for FOUR nights per stay of "lowest rack rate" – none with any expiry shown on them. Darn handy as the UA Hotel certs are being discontinued ex December 2003. I imagine these could be traded on Coupon Connection etc for something very useful, if we do not use them, bringing down the real cost of the packages.

It was likely going beforehand but I didn't have a membership until after I joined FT and AFF in 2004.
