Hidden city ticketing or other tips

Hi all,

Pre-COVID and when living in Europe, I used to be able to find deals on international flights using hidden city ticketing or adding a hotel to my business class booking even if for just 1 night.
However, now, since moving to Australia, I feel these tricks don't seem to work anymore.

I'm trying to find flights to Europe (LON, AMS, ATH or Germany) from Australia mid/end Aug to mid Sep.

Any suggestions or travel tools I could try?

I am no expert, but the challenge is the ex Australia piece, the fares are extortionate.

Look at fares ex SIN/BKK/CGK etc and the use miles or a cheap Y ticket to get to those places.

Plenty of cheap fares out of CGK but from what I understand you can't transit at CGK for example.

I’ve been looking for months for something to Europe June/July period. Plenty of good fares ex-Asia but no points seats up there and back from end of May until Oct/Nov…

If you’re not fussy, Phillipines as good Biz fares to places various.

I just recently booked MEL-KUL-DXB-FCO for the last week of July mixture of J (MH) and F (EK) on points.

Qatar to Paris in June from Singapore is $5k rtn pretty much in J. Q Suites I think nearly the entire way there and back.

That was just a quick look on google flights, flying out on a Tuesday

Unfortunately there's not a lot of hidden city ticketing available to Australians.

As most other posters note, the 'bargain' for Australians is ex-Asia business to Europe/US.

Me too. Another good thing to know is if there are any current discount codes for airlines that you can use for J or by using a particular credit card (saw the MC discount on another thread).

QR ex CGK to various Euro ports.

Use ITA Matrix or Google Flights to search separately from CGK, DPS, SIN, BKK and MNL to a bunch of Euro ports. You’ll often see open jaw options cheaper than return.

Sri Lankan had some fares from Oz to LHR (required a stopover). Also some JL fares around - but as cheap as precovid.

that’s not true - you certainly can post-COVID if you arrive with an already issued onward BP.

Manila to various destinations in Europe is consistently around $2,500 return in Etihad business class.

I found the fare on Matrix but its pricing at $3,680 for some random dates I checked. And there‘s a 20 hour transit outbound and 9 hours transit on the return.

Still, it’s definitely worthy of a separate “International flight deal” @SYD !

Yeah, the price sounds about right. I should have said “mid $3k”. Still cheap.

SYD+1 saw it mentioned in a FB group a couple of weeks ago, so I had a quick search and there was plenty of availability (and I thought reasonably connections). But then I got frustrated finding stuff in/out of DPS and so put the idea on hold. Like many deals….

I was looking at Bamboo airlines last night and put in dates End of Aug return End of Oct and was 7500 return in J for 2 peeps

Qatar Airways J Sep return SIN-FRA then MUC -SIN ~$5k. I recall BKK-FRA / MUC-BKK on Qatar was as low as $4.5k when I checked last week.

Agree with all the above, Ex SE Asia is usually pretty good, however post covid getting cheap or points seats ex AU is so hard it negates alot of options, especially if you dont want to spend time with overnight / long transits etc

Currently trying to book PE or Bus on any airline to Europe for end of May 2024 for 2 weeks.
Searching using ITA but looks like you can't do a search with different countries of origin anymore

No, it’s been like that for several years. You need to do “From” Country one by one (can include multiple starting ports eg CGK and DPS) but at least you can still do multiple destinations countries/ports.
