From what I've read posted in other threads, it seems to be an issue with the VA offer.

Nothing to do with the VA offer. I've been at various levels within Hilton, and sometimes I get a card, and sometimes I don't.

Totally agree. Hilton are useless at sending out cards.
In my own case I used MVP to get gold and then VA for Diamond.
Have 6 cards sent to me varying from Blue to Diamond with Balloon!
Never once needed the card on check-in

There's always that part of the check-in spiel: "Thank you Mr BearDoc, we have your Hilton Honors Diamond membership on file, thank you for your loyalty." That's their way of saying they noticed you're a member. I've always been prepared to ask that they have my number if I haven't heard this, but I've always heard it in every one of the hotels I've checked into.

I started a new job. As part of that new job I was asked to fill out a profile with all my frequent flyer/hotel/car memberships so that bookings can be made seamlessly. For this I was able to quote my HHonors number without checking the website, courtesy of the card!

I have that in my i-phone and don't need the card anyway.
