Interestingly, I've stayed at the Doubletree by Hilton in China twice now as a HHonors Gold (due to the Visa Card) and the first stay was a little bit confusing as I was not entirely sure as to my entitlements as a HHonors Gold.

We were not told about Complimentary Breakfast or Complimentary Internet but did get it after enquiring and subsequently left a little bit of feedback via the customer survey saying that it might be helpful (and just nice) to highlight to HHonors members what the hotel is offering them specifically.

Arriving at the Doubletree by Hilton last night I was informed of the space-available upgrade to the executive floor, advised about breakfast on the way to the floor, and even had a hand-signed note on the table listing all of the hotel benefits. Note seems awfully generic but it does seem they are trying to let me know what I can do as a HHonors Gold this time.

Is this standard process they messed up the first time or are they acting on my previous feedback?

Maybe a bit of both.

It is normal practice for status guests to be told what they are receiving as complementary and be provided a letter outlining the details. This is particularly important when arriving at a hotel not visited previously as some go well and above the defined official benefits and some stick like glue to the barest minimum.

Frequently, on return stays to a hotel, I'm actually asked whether I'd like the letter or not (presuming I remember the benefit offering from the previous stay). I normally accept it, just in case there are changes.
