Just have to share the interesting situation when I went to check in at Hilton Athens last week.

Using the Hilton website I had made the non-cancellable booking for two nights and included my HH number. When the confirmation email arrived I forwarded it to [email protected] and added it to my travel plans. I even installed the HH iphone app and was able to see the booking there.

So no surprises to know that when I lobbed up to the desk at Athens they had no record of the booking. Nudda, nothing, zero. I was standing at the desk, showing them the email and even the booking that was still displaying on the iPhone app. The guy was quite frustrated and just started a fresh booking.

So instead of a king size bed with high floor away from lifts...we got two queen single beds pushed together into a really big king double. Our room had a great view of the Acropolis.

In general that hotel is so tight with everything. Wifi was something like EUR10/hour, the mini bar fridge was strictly not able to hold any personal items but they do offer to hire us a personal fridge for EUR10/day.

Yep sounds pretty Greek like to me - not a racist comment but rather a comment based on past experiences in Athens.

I thought it was interesting from the point of view of systems integration. While there is a presentation of a single unified international platform, at the hotel level there must be many disparate systems.

IME the Greeks are the Chinese of Europe - if there is any possible way to create 'confusion, complication and contradiction' they will find it.
