Sorry I forgot to mention it’s the club euro fare but you can’t get a refund.
BA has free Change on the Day for any fare that’s not HLO (UK domestic and Euro). Since you were on a stand-alone, you could have gone online to see if the system would let you change to an earlier flight.

Prior to the day of flight, you’ll see fare difference etc, but on the day, if there’s available seats on one or more alternative flights, it’ll be free to change.

Trick is to be on the system at midnight GMT (I think). We did one flying BUD-LHR. Worked a treat - apart from getting up a 2am to change the flight…. If the flights not busy, probably can still change close to departure.

I have a flight at the end of the year, literally arriving on Boxing Day. Thankfully, QF1 lands in the same terminal as my next flight out to Europe (T3). So I will have to try my luck at Perth airport to get it interlined to BA, and take the print-out on how to do it on their system.

The QF Staff has added notes to my Qantas tickets to try to check me through to my final destination, even though it's on PNR, but has recommended checking again with the baggage staff to make sure they are willing to do it on the day. The worst case is that I will have to collect my bag and then find my way to the departure side of the same terminal to check my bags in again.

So fingers crossed, I will be able to provide a DP here at the end of the year.
