Hi anyone who can help!

Last year, my wife and I flew to Europe on a cheap Czech Airlines ticket, and signed up with their frequent flyer program. We then found out that as flights Brisbane-Singapore-Abu Dhabi (and back) were with Etihad, only limited points applied. None of these points were recognised by any alliance! Czech Airlines is a Skyteam member and we accumulated points for the Czech flights. As a result we ended up with 18792 Czech Airlines OK Plus points and/or 7060 Skyteam miles.

We don’t intend returning to Europe and apparently with Skyteam if you want a business class flight (in USA), you pay for an economy flight and apply for the upgrade 3 days before flight and they will see if they have a spare BC seat. I’m not prepared to buy their miles on the off-chance! Also, it appears that we can’t sell these Skyteam points either!

I also have the following points
Qantas Airlines – 11123 – these points are gradually increasing due to Everyday rewards from Woolworths – we don’t really want to use Qantas following a really bad previous experience. Virgin Airlines – 5370 – Points accrued from an internal flight – will probably not use them again for internal flights.

The question(s) is (are) can we sell any of the accumulated points?

Next trips:-

We have booked and paid for flights to USA next year (April 2015) via Fiji air (BNE – NDI, economy) , and Air New Zealand (NDI – LAX, business – very cheap for some reason). The Air New Zealand ticket is code sharing with Fiji Air.

Which plan do we join (if any) to gain points on these flights?

In the USA we will need to fly Orlando (MCO) to New York (EWR) one way, coach , and then New York (?EWR) to Honolulu (HNL), business. Flights still to be booked.

The year after (? late 2015/or 2016) we plan to go to Hong Kong, either fly both ways, or possibly cruise one way.

My thinking is to pay for the internal tickets in USA, join Alaskan air reward plan and accumulate points for MCO-EWR and EWR-HNL. Later on, purchase enough air miles from Alasakan Air to claim a business class fare to Hong Kong (either one way or return)

Does this seem a reasonable way to go?

Again, the question(s) is (are) can we use any of the accumulated points mentioned above?

Sorry to be a bit long-winded, but if anyone can help, you need to know all the details, etc.

Will appreciate any help and comments, Thanks

Sounds like you need to do a bit of reading about the program's, especially earn on code shares which is usually poor. While you may not wish to use Qantas or Virgin, they are a good starting point to accumulate points which can be burned on other airlines. NAN LAX is cheap, but crediting to NZ is a poor use of points, had you bought the FJ code, you would have earns a lot more through QF for a similar or cheaper price.

Thanks for your comments - wish I had come across this site before I brought tickets!!! Although at the time, there was very considerable saving on the fare, probably still in front even without earning points.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You cannot sell miles. This is a rule in most(all?) ffp’s. And against the rules of AFF to offer miles for sale, Am surprised your post was not edited as all requests to sell miles here on AFF get deleted very quickly. Anyway the miles you have are worth much. Some allow ffp’s you to donate miles to charities. And other like QF allow family transfers. www.points.com works for some but poor value. But have no idea about Czech ffp rules.

Do not understand this. Not familiar with Skyteam alliance, but generally you only have ff miles/points with an airline only and not the alliance. Have you checked if you can use you the 18792 Czech Airlines points on a Delta award flight in the USA? This may be best and only way to effectively use. They may expire.. Also QF award flights in the USA on AA/US/AS can be good value (no surcharges)

Are these Fiji flight numbers on Air NZ aircraft or Air NZ flight numbers on Fiji Airways aircraft? What are the flight numbers and booking class letter? As above earning ff miles on codeshares is problematic.

This may not work, Have you looked at possible USA domestic airlines, routes & fares? HNL in business will not be cheap While Alaska is good ffp with a wide range of partners award routes are limited. Partners Overview | Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan For earn to burn hard to go past AA
