Hi Guys!

I need your help pls. This is the first time my husband and I will be going to the US, and we want to go via Business. (i hate long trips...i nearly died travelling on the HK-Frankfurt leg in Luftansa Business as it was an older, not updated plane, 2 ys ago)

I am a QFF-Bronze, and i think i have nearly 180K QFF points.
We also have access to Citibank and CommBank Plat Concierge.

What's the best and cheapest way to get there?

I want to do LA, Las Vegas, but looking at the pricing, the best and cheapest way for Business is to do a Round the World Tix instead of the standard Syd-La-Las Vegas Return. So am open to other cities too (NY, Lon, Sing, etc)

Can you worldly travellers on this forum offer any advice?

Much appreciated!

You could do a CirclePacific fare flying:

syd-lax-las-lax-hkg-syd

That would be a total mileage of 19K miles at a cost of A$7600+++ each

The other option could be a RTW ticket starting in NRT (Tokyo). That would cost A$6500+++ and you would have to burn points to get to NRT and back. Obviously that gives you a heap of options as well to visit other places on your trip.

I'd second the Circle Pacific fare as well. Going to North America via Hong Kong is easy, and you can do some shopping along the way. The transport to and from the airport in HK to the city is very easy as well.

Swiss currently have a RTW deal for about $6600. I'm flying CX to Hong Kong and then LX (Swiss) to Zurich, then LX to JFK, and finally UA from JFK to MEL.

Do you know how flexible the swiss fare is?

Eg can you make changes to the flights (including the first outbound flight from Australia) once it has been ticketed?

Also, will the whole thing (other than the initial Cathay flight) earn you points on United Airlines Mileage Plus?

No can do for A$7600. Now costs $9299+++ for this circuit. Refer to AFF discussion and best flights pricing.

true, but that's if you book ex-AUS. If you book a DCIR22 ex-NRT, then it's much cheaper, even allowing for travel to NRT. Whn I booked ex-NRT a month ago, the tickets worked out to about $6,500 including all taxes.

That was flying JAL from NRT - SFO, AA within the US, and then home from the US on QF.

Wow!

Thanks Guys.

Do i just ask the travel agent for these fares, or can i book online? (which method is easiest?)

I'm happy to go to Tokyo first (we haven't been in a year and am missing it) and not too keen to go the HK as i just came back from there a few months ago.

Can i earn QFF points using the Circle Pacific Fare?

(sorry, but i am still quite a newbie when it comes to travel )

You can't book these fares on line yet - oneworld are working on that. You will earn QFF points and SCs on all flight assuming you book business class in D. You might want to check the earning for JL in relation to the Status Bonus as I can't recall if you do or dont earn status bonus with them - mind you, you could always fly AA to the US from NRT.

No QFF status bonus if flying JL, although the OP is Bronze so not of concern to them. Should earn COS bonus though in D.

Would earn status bonus flying AA codeshare on JL metal, or flying AA metal as you indicated.
