Hi everyone,

im wanting to book any seat award, and have a few queries which i hope you can help.

im looking at melb - lax. was hoping for late dec early jan 2015, but just rang and there is 7th jan avail.

should i book this, and maybe hope an earlier date becomes avail ( e.g. someone cancels..)

Also, it is approx 96,000 points and $655 one way, or 160,803 points and no $$ to pay.

Is this a good use of points or should i part pay with points and $$?

thanks again

TQ

The cash component is usually good value in terms of the normal cost of acquiring points.

OK so for 96000 points you are talking about a Classic Award. These will go very fast so I would lock in. Or option 2 ring QANTAS and try for MASA

thanks serfty,

i had looked at many threads.... but then you get varied information over the phone from qantas

I have now booked into "u" class...hope thats the one i wanted.

First agent told me that it is fully refundable if any changes were needed, then second agent told me there was a $300 change or cancellation fee??

TQ

IME it is dependent on the ticket type. Usually if it is 'Business' there is no fee, but if it is, say, 'Business Saver' then it may have a cancellation fee similar to the one you quote. I have had both types in recent years.

Edited to add: I have only booked one JASA since they became 'over-the-phone' rather than online. Cannot recall details but it was not as straightforward tracking down the fare conditions with the phone one as it was with the online ones (in fact I don't think I managed it). But as I said, if it is simply a 'Business' ticket then I would imagine it is fully refundable.

It seems the fare rules of booked xASA's are now available when looking them online.

Of course this does not help when booking over the phone.

How did you go TQ ??

Hi Craven,

I booked a "U" fare, Melb - Lax for 160,927 points, no cash component for jan 1st 2015.

not really sure how I got that date as when I had rung the day before to enquire....the first avail date was jan 7th.

the agent was talking about classic seats at first.....but then when I specifically asked was it an any seat award, she said yes...

she also said there was a $300, change or cancellation cost, where the previous agent said that it was fully refundable.

no wonder I was getting confused!!

anyway....hopefully I have done the right thing.....the email hasn't come through from qantas yet, and no points have been deducted yet either??

thanks for all your help, and as always, I'm happy for those more knowledgable to give me some insight.

TQ
