Hi

I know this is the intro thread but I’m trying to figure out solutions to a potential issue with a separate booking / connecting flight regarding baggage.

Can’t post in the help section

Edit:
Flight is Perth to Heathrow with Qantas
Get into Heathrow at around 5:15am
Next flight is Heathrow to Oslo with BA, departing Heathrow at 7:35am.

Separate bookings as one was a rewards flight and one was paid for.

I’ve spoken to QANTAS and they have said they can’t connect the flights to ensure our baggage is automatically transferred, that we have to wait until we get to Perth airport on our flight day, which I feel is too late to try and reorganise another flight to Oslo.

I’m worried we won’t have enough time to get our luggage and get back in for our flight to Oslo.

Would contacting BA help?

I’d be changing the LHR OSL booking as per screen shot below. As you’ll see, there IS an exception when it is two PNR’s with one being award and the other being paid, but I still wouldn’t trust the airport staff to do it.

Would that be the direct conversation with QANTAS on the phone then?

Nope - contact centre staff can’t assist by the looks of it - only airport staff. See highlighted in screenshot.

Ah yep. So contact them now to alleviate the issues on the day at the airport. Thanks! Hopefully it works.

You MIGHT be ok according to this …..but I’d still be nervous and change the LHR OSL, unless you can do it at the airport if they don’t through-check.

What if I am travelling on separate tickets?
oneworld flights on separate tickets/bookings are not eligible for through check–in, except if you have a Qantas Frequent Flyer reward or Qantas commercial booking, advise airport staff at check-in of the booking references.
QF/QF and QF/EK flights on separate tickets/booking - through check-in is eligible and boarding passes will be issued.

BA LHR-OSL flights are out of T3 where you arrive on QF9, so if you can through check it gives more leeway. If not, getting through immigration, collecting your bags and re-checking would be quite a challenge. Generally the LHR-OSL flights are early morning or evening/night, so could be a long wait if you move the second leg.

We fly into that same terminal. Issue is the customs as you said. Around 2 and a half hours to disembark, go through customs, get luggage, go back through security.

I’ve just spoken to Qantas again and they’ve linked the two flights. So all we need to do is confirm at Perth airport, but all should be fine.

I really enjoyed the OSL experience when I was there a few months ago. The train service to the city is very good outside of peak hours when it can be a bit of a crush as some of them are pretty full when they arrive.

Yeah, so easy to get ticket and go straight to platform. Nice airport too.
Real lack of luggage storage on AirPort Express though I felt
