Welcome to AFF
I am a current Qantas Platinum FF with 4-6 trips to the USA per year and 2 return trips to Oslo and 1 return trip to London per year. I’m about to move my base from Australia to NZ. I’ve been increasingly dissatisfied with how Qantas Platinum is treated by Codeshare partners to Oslo and the lack of ability to upgrade on codeshare flights. I’m thinking of jumping across to SG or AirNZ, any suggestions especially around upgrading with points? I had a good experience with SG 15 years back.
In NZ for life or a short time (months/years)?
Is your sailing avatar Auckland or Tauranga?
Where in NZ will you be living?
Any airline should treat its own ff members 1 notch better than others.
With code shares not aware of any airline/ffp/alliance that has ffp upgrades on codeshares. The only exception is those that offer bidding upgrade. But may be some.
Star Alliance offer cross airline upgrades. But
* requires high prices base fare
* prime flights (no codeshare)
* not guaranteed
* not all Star airline offer. My understanding Air NZ do not
So useless for most people.
AA & QF have a preliminary_trial Oneworld cross airline upgrade scheme.
With airline frequent (spender) programs printing frequent flyer miles/points/avios by the million is harder to get upgrades with a ffp.
Air NZ do not fly to EU.
As above do not ignore an avois ffp (QR, BA, IB, AY, IE)
Or staying with QF ffp.
