star alliance rules are clear - J pax no guesting, F pax allowed one guest. This applies to paid or award tickets.

Status pax have different guesting rules (ie one guest regardless of class of service).
Duffa when travelling F you are able to guest 1 person whom also needs to be on the same flight. They can also get to board with you via F boarding and get shown to their "y" seat.

Travelling J there is no lounge guesting. :(

Thanks for clearing that one up re lounge guests

I have two experiences to relate regarding Y to J.

SQ - I was in J BCN-SIN and a mother and baby in 11C "morphed" into grandmother and baby a few hours after take off and then morphed back into mother and baby for the last couple of hours. I searched the J cabin and no sign of the mother while grandma was in the seat. Later on the flight I saw the mother come through the Y/J curtain. Then all three up the front doing the change over. Conclusion: SQ allow seat swapping if you have a newborn baby. ps the baby was an angel the whole flight

QF PER-MEL in J. We two in (half full) J, young adult son in Y (last minute booking for him). Senior stewardess watched us go our separate ways at entry door. We exchanged a laugh and smile about age and privilege. A few minutes later, the same stewardess approached us and said she would ask CSM if she could bring him up to J. This was approved so she trotted off to Y and asked him to join us. She returned without him! It seems he declined her "kind offer but didn't feel he could accept, as he had only paid for Y and wasn't entitled to J"
She went back and insisted he come up, which he did. By this stage the other staff had heard about his "polite refusal" and proceeded to spoil him rotten in the way that only Qantas know how! He had a ball. Conclusion: QF will op-up family if conditions are right.

It shows on those two occasions, passengers were allowed to swap/given an upgrade. There are many more observations of passengers being refused in the same circumstances.

My Qantas example... 3 hour delay due to mechanical, two passengers only in the cabin, wife asked if husband could come up to sleep once lights were out in the F cabin (sleep only, not eat or drink - asked because the flight was going to be very late, husband had to go straight to work on arrival, and Mk1 beds not conducive to sleep). Request politely refused.

Having passengers come up from lower cabins is a security issue, an ambiance issue, and uses resources (food, beverages, staff time) that haven't been paid for. Some food and beverage items could also run out, inconveniencing a passenger who later wishes to order one of those items.

With the greatest of respect for those booked in whY, it is very very annoying to have paid with own money for F/J seats and have op-ups in the F/J cabins for dinner and then be told by FAs that your choice of food has run out (because the freeloaders have chosen it). :( Caused some heated words on a SQ flight couple of years ago.

It's a few years ago so no need to waste time worrying about that past experience - there are bigger and better things to come ;)

Op-ups is one thing, acceptable though - but a self invitation to J/F without crew consent, that's unacceptable.

Anyway to the OP, I would suggest burning some more points and getting your daughter into confirmed J so she can be with you, and maybe forgo the economy seat (as it's a restrictive fare).
