Help opening AU bank account overseas

Will see what happens when I post this stuff to Citi anyway, if that all works then no need to open another one!

They don't need it until 30th June 2021.

I'm hoping that Citi will come to their senses and realise that there are other, online, ways that the information can, in most cases, be supplied to them.
It's really a bit of a ridiculous request from them. And I think a bit of a money saving approach. They don't want to pay for an approved online identification verification method even for residents and citizens of Australia.

I escalated it when I called in to query it and each manager I spoke said the same, no online method. Ridiculous in this day and age.

no online method. Ridiculous in this day and age.

I sold a property recently and could provide all the ID necessary, online, to legally carry out the whole "sale of land" process.

The lawyers called it "Online Verification Of Identity (VOI)". A method that apparently meets all the legal requirements of identity in Australia. Enough at least for the sale or purchase of real property in Australia.

There were no Statutory Declarations needed. There were no witnessing signatures needed, There were no "certified" copies of documents needed. It was however a bit of a process. But all online.

Using such a method would no doubt cost Citi something...

Do you have an address that can be used in Australia? I found it easy to open new bank accounts online (Macquarie Bank, Suncorp two recent examples), by using an Australian address (my mothers), verifying identity through passport online. I can't quite remember, they may have requirement to have another Australian Bank Account linked (could use Citi for that?). Then when all done, a month or two later, change your address to your actual address. For some banks accounts this may not be allowed but for many can be done.

All the ones I had a look at this morning require an AU mobile number (for logon 2FA I suppose), not keen on using my folks mobile as it's essentially lying on the application....
