Some advice from the regular users of Heathrow please.
We have never been through Heathrow previously & will be doing the following on 3rd June
BA0641 from Athens arrive T5 at 16.40 then out of T4 on QF0002 at 22.15. to Sydney. Travelling in J with my partner being QF Gold.
Should/will luggage be booked all the way through at Athens?
What process do we go through between arrival at T5 & lounge entry at T4? Which lounge do we aim to use?

Reading BA site has not made things totally clear to me.

I can answer the 1st part quite easily; with a BA to OW connection then your luggage should indeed be checked all the way through and you will not need to collect it in London

On arrival at T5, follow signs for flight connections and you should find airside transport to T4.

If you go to BAA Heathrow: Flight Connections they have a nice little tool which will tell you the connection process. Just select T5 International arrival to T4 and it gives a nice step by step description

Welcome to Heathrow. On leaving the aircraft please follow the signs for Flight Connections

A dedicated bus will take you to your departure terminal. They are free and depart every 6 minutes.

Your hand baggage must conform to EU and UK government regulations. At this point your hand baggage will be checked. Please note, liquids in containers over 100ml are not allowed through security

You will pass through security screening at this point. If you are a non-UK resident and have goods to declare to H M Customs, please use the telephone prior to Security to contact a member of staff.

If you wish to visit your airline’s ticket desk (BA only) you will find it at this point.

Once you arrive in the departure lounge you will be ready for your next flight. Check the screens for information about your flight, as they will tell you when to go to your departure gate. Meanwhile, you can relax, shop, eat and use other facilities here. Please note there are no service facilities or shops at the departure gates.

I am not sure of the lounge situation now at T4; There was a Lounge Pavillion near Gate 14 which had Concorde Room, 1st and Terrances lounges and near Gate 5 a Terraces lounge. I believe that the Pavillion may have closed but not sure

Dave

The lounge pavillion was to close April 30th when the majority of BA flights were to have moved to T5. However, the powers that be have decided not to move any more flights to T5 for the time being -at least until June. Such moves are to be on a timetable still to be worked out.

SO the Lounge Pavillion at T5 will stay open for a while longer then expected.

More here:

FWIW, we have a LGW-LHR(T4) cnx in late June and the LGW/LHR buses no longer serve T4 (nor does the Heathrow express for that matter :()!

The Heathrow Express now runs services

Paddington - Term 1,2,3 - Term 4 and
Paddington - Term 1,2,3 - Term 5

There are still services from Heathrow 1,2,3 to T4 , so if you take coach from Gatwick to Heathrow Central can hop on the express to T4

your baggage will be tagged for the through connection, but with the current baggage problems at Heathrow, there is no certainty it will actually travel on the flights for which it has been tagged.

I have the reverse problem (also never been to LHR before) and have looked around the BA site for some guidance. I agree with you RB about the site. My wife and I arrive into LHR T4 on 11 Aug on QF9 from SIN at 0525 and depart from LHR T5 on BA 430 for AMS at 0840. Will the luggage be booked through to AMS from SIN? Understand about the inter terminal bus. I am a QC silver so I understand I can enter BA Terraces lounges and bring my wife as a travelling guest, but there are no Terraces lounges in T5. We will certainly want to freshen up after 13 hrs on the plane and have someting to sustain us. Do we do the arrivals lounge in T4? I would rather get to T5 and get ready for the next leg. Sorry to hijack the thread.

The BAA (not BA) site is good for this information

There are lounges in T5 however they are now called Galleries rather than Terraces, so as a QP member you can use the business Galleries

Many thanks Dave! It's handy to know these things before you get there.

Hmmm ... so no direct train betwixt T4 and T5.

From LGW, the National Express bus's arrive at LHR T5 some 15 or 20 minutes before hitting the "CentralBusStation @T1/2/3.

Disembarking there might have cut the Bus journey time by ~20%. Indeed, I was hoping for a more direct connection via T5.

Oh well, we do have 6 scheduled hours between our flights, what's another ½ hour.

Thanks for the advice previously guys. Now back from our trip. The bus transfer from T5 to T4 was indeed easy- downstairs straight on to a bus & delivered to the door of T4. Lounge was right near departure gate, good choice of food & drinks & access to computers. Very hot downstairs but fine upstairs. Showers easily available & certainly refreshing.
