Haze alert for those with impending travel to SE Asia

I doubt they would do that for you if you are simply transiting the airport for a short time. The airline might consider it if your DESTINATION was singapore by offering to change dates free... but otherwise flights are operating as normal.

Yes airlines operating as normal. Transit passengers who just will be in the air conditioned environment of the terminal are not going to be impacted by the haze. Maybe you will be if wanting to use one of the outdoor smoking areas, but tough. Those wanting to enjoy a holiday will be. Would definitely ruin it for anyone who had plans to sit by the pool at Marina Bay Sands.

Today it is has worsened again. Let's hope it will be clear by early July.

Update for today: After the worst morning this week, with a few hours straight of hazardous conditions, the sky started to clear up from about 2pm. It's now clear, and apparently back to normal. The PSI reading has been below 100 since 4pm, and has continued to remain so up till now (about 6 hours). Let's see how long the clean air lasts, but in the mean time, I'm going to be busy catching up with my laundry.

Government had to do something to clear the air, so people could turn out for National Day Parade rehearsals which have begun in earnest. ;) How else would people see the flypasts?

So the haze will be returning on 10 Aug...

Andy´s post just made me realise we´ll be in Singapore on National Day. Hubby has attended one before as a special guest and enjoyed viewing from a platform but this time we will be mere mortals. We are staying at the intercontinental so any tips for a good view of proceedings?

Maybe Asia Bar in the Swissotel? I think MBS will be packed or booked out.

Also, the air is definitely better today/yesterday PM. You couldn't see the Sands from the bridge on expressway to the airport at 10am Sat. Now it is clear-ish.

That's good. It's been discussed here in Adelaide. MBS?

Marina Bay Sands. Also, for anything over the bay, the Fullerton Bay's rooftop bar would be quite nice. Lamp I think it is.

Definitely not the bars/restaurants at the top of the Swissotel. You won't see much of the parade from level 70.

No, it will come back tomorrow and be clear again next Saturday afternoon ;)

What we really need is some decent rain it's practically a drought here (by local standards).

Would a massive downpour on sumatra be better instead? I don't think there are any geological features that would trap smoke in Singapore... Unless there was little wind.

At this point in time, happy to take rain anywhere. :)

Update for today: It stayed mostly clear for the whole day, and life has returned to normal in SIN. The air is not at its cleanest, but it's unlikely to cause any issue for anyone. It appears that the wind direction changed slightly, and the haze is no longer over SIN. As such, this will be my last daily update, unless the haze is back. (i.e. no news is good news) :)

See if you can take some of this Sydney rain. We are under water. :(

Only if QF would fly the A380 to SIN again, instead of taking pax for one trip, they can open the doors at take off in SYD to let the rain in, and then open the doors again just before landing in SIN to let the rain out. :)

And given the heat in SIN, the interior will be completely dry and clean by the time the plane turns around and the pax board in SIN.

Well, it'll be clean given it is Singapore, but certainly not dry with the humidity!

Any day. :(
