Does anyone have any recommendations or tips on where to stay in Oahu. I have a young family ie one year old and was looking at a getaway with my wife.

I have had recommendations for the Hilton Waikiki Beach ie offers babysitting and is child friendly.

Looking for 4-5 star resort over the NY period into the first week in January. Looking forward to your recommendations

We stayed at the Embassy Suites in Waikiki in May 2009 (& thinking of staying there again in April). Our daughter was 2.5 years old at the time. After our trip to Europe with her in 2008, we wanted a room with a separate bedroom without getting two hotel rooms. We had a few nights in Europe where we hid in the bathroom while she went to sleep. Your child may be different - ours is a party animal who will stay awake if something's going on. All rooms are suites - ours had two queen beds in the bedroom & a spacious 2-3 seater lounge, extra lounge chair, 4 chairs & dining table. There was a mini fridge in each room. Can't remember if there was a microwave.
No kids club or similar. Full buffet brekky, including fresh omelettes, each morning near the pool. Each night there was a manager's receptin in the same area; we were given drinks chits for a couple of decent drinks, and there were basic snacks & free soft drinks. This helped ease a small, rumbly tummy before we would go out for dinner.
We got a babysitter one night through a nanny agency recommended by the concierge - $20/hr, min. $80.

Maybe not quite 5 star resort (like Trump or Halekulani or others), but we enjoyed it.

Also points out something I didnt think of, our little one is a light sleeper so not sure how well he would sleep in a cot in the same room.

I will also have a look at Trump and Halekulani

We had a few nights in Europe where we hid in the bathroom while she went to sleep.

haha, We upgraded all our July USA trip accom to suites, as I pictured us having to sit quietly in the dark. Never thought of the bathroom.

Have a look at the Grand Waikikian Suites by Hilton Grand Vacations. It is on the property of the Hilton Hawaiian Village with a few other hotel towers. The Grand Waikikian is a all suites hotel. I stayed at the one bed room suite which has a large sofa bed or you can request a cot. It is on the beach with a few swimming pools as well as a lagoon.
