Hi there

I absolutely hate LAX and hate even more the interim lounge for QCLUB.

I am travelling in mid september to LA and was wondering whether anyone has seen/experienced the new lounge there.

I have asked QANTAS and they have said that it is open but would like someone to confirm.

cheers everyone.

The new lounge will be a Oneworld lounge, so will be shared by all of the Oneworld carriers flying out of LAX.

I believe that there have been delays with construction and is not due to open for another couple of months (someone else here will probably have better information than that). I have not read anything recently to suggest that the new lounges are open.

Can you arrange you flights to leave from T4 instead of TBIT. That way you will have access to the Admirals Club prior to your QF flight (i.e. LAX-SYD).

Or, if you are arriving into LAX on a domestic AA flight, then you can always hang out at the Admirlas Club and then head over to TBIT prior to your flight.

Both of these would be preferrable to using the interim TBIT lounge.

And welcome to AFF.

Except for those flight that depart from T4, which is all AA-operated flights and all QF flights to SYD. So there are probably more OneWorld flights departing from T4 than departing from TBIT when all added up.

Yes, good point. I should have put flying out of LAX TBIT

I'll be in transit from Vegas and then LAX to BNE. Does the terminal 4 AA lounge have showers?

yes, both the business class and Flagship Lounges have showers.

Currently October ...
I was there last week, and the QF check-in staff believed November was the latest completion date being discussed. As I am back through there on 22/11, I hope it is prior to then.

One good thing though, they provided access to the interim lounge to me (WP) and 3 zero status family members, without me even having to beg :) .

I'm coming through there on Nov 5th ...

This what's available on the Qantas web site (it was updated in early September to read "Late October"): New Lounge Experience in LA
New Lounge Experience in LA
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

From late October 2007, members with access to The Qantas Club can enjoy a new lounge experience in Los Angeles. Qantas, in partnership with Cathay Pacific and British Airways, is developing new First and Business lounges in the Tom Bradley International terminal. The new lounges will offer more space, more seating, luxury shower suites and enhanced business facilities. ...
FWIW, the interim Business lounge is scheduled to cease operating after 31st October and the Interim F lounge after 30th November.

More here (see page 7 - "Lounge Tenant Project"): LAX Operations Coordinated Construction Activity Monday, October 8, 2007 through Sunday, October 14, 2007

Thanks for the information all.

Might sound like a silly question but can I access the lounge overseas if i'm flying Qantas or AA in economy? I don't have status but I do have paid Qantas Club membership.

thanks in advance

You can access the lounges when flying QF, BA or AA.

I haven't seen this discussed elsewhere, so I am happy to report the new lounges are open and are a significant improvement on the interim :) . I visited the new TBIT FLounge on 22/11 and it was a pleasant experience.

The lounge is not big, but was not crowded at all prior to the departure of QF94, so it seems the size is adequate. The decor is quite modern and comfortable, with good comfortable chairs. At the far end from the entrance there are really comfortable armchairs with matching footstools that you can almost lie in, which are great when feeling a little weary:D .

The showers are shared with the J Lounge, but are large and very usable, plenty of room to access your bag/case etc and great shower heads.

No full dining service, ala MEL/SYD, just snacks etc. Moet bubbly, but the red/white wine is only ok, being a choice of Wolf Blass yellow label or a Californian brand. JW Black/Chivas whiskies, Tanquarey gin etc.

All in all, a pretty good lounge experience, though the new MEL/SYD Flounges have upped the ante a fair bit these days.

It was open when I came through on Nov 5th for QF94 but never got to seeit.

I came in off QF108 which was 15 minutes early. QF94/QF176 passengers were told to go to gate 40(IIRC) at T4 to await a bus to take us around airside to TBIT. We waited in a small room for 35 minutes before being herded onto a bus where we waited another 25 minutes. The bus trip then took 20 minutes and we only arrived at TBIT as boarding for QF94 had commenced!

(In hindsight, I should have gone out of T4 and back through TBIT security - would have saved at least ½ an hour).

I had a bit of time up my sleeve so changed my JFK-LAX flight from QF108 to an earlier AA flight, so I did not get caught up in this, and to ensure I got time to visit the new FLounge. A very good move I believe :D .

Just to add a little more perspective, the new TBIT FLounge is pretty equivalent to the T4 Flagship Lounge, but more modern and maybe just a little larger. It also has a large screen tv, with a more traditional viewing area in front of it.

I had a bit of a view of the JLounge area as I passed through it to access the showers, and from what I saw it is a better looking lounge than the AC at T4.

So now there is no advantage in flying LAX/SYD/MEL rather than LAX/MEL, just to gain access to the T4 lounges :D .

I am currently in the TBIT business lounge awaiting flt. back to Aust.

Perhaps I'm being picky due to a very long day, very early start and flt. still one hour away at midnight but although this lounge is brand new, I find it a bit squashed. There are quite a few people here for the past few hours.

I'm ready for sleep and perhaps that is why I'm finding the noise overwhelming.

Yes the lounge is brand new, staff very friendly and helpful, food continually being replaced but I would have liked to see a bit more space.

What's that saying about pleasing some people. I do like the cricket and nature music being played in the showers very much.

As I haven't been in the old lounge here, I'm sure this is a vast improvement. I just want to go to sleep.

There is one reason to be pleased right there - I believe the old oneworld TBIT lounges did not actually have any showers ...
