rogerkambah, see my post 1371 above. I think it is getting more difficult to get JASAs by indirect routes where a direct route exists. In May you could have got that routing for 32000 points I'm sure, but it looks like they are now charging you 16000 points per sector.

pauly7 (post 1379) has a different view I on this so it is possibly not universal. It may depend on the particular route, or even which CSR you get on the phone.

But these indirect JASAs are certainly harder to get at pre June rates unfortunately.

Thanks asg29e. It does look like I'm being charged 16,000 points per sector and maybe also individual sector taxes too. I'll have to look for another way to get 120SC.

However, minimum points usage was stated as 48,000 with a payment of $336.66. I am wondering whether this sounds a bit steep, compared to an online JASA booked in May, CBR-MEL-HBA-SYD-CBR costing 48,000 points and $124.57.
I haven't checked dates but you could try CBR-xSYD-OOL which is showing up as 32k + $158.62 for a Classic.

Had a spare hour last night to book my favoured (J)ASA SYD-MEL-ADE-BNE-SYD for next June which should requalify me SG. I did it the "safe" way - 4 consecutive calls to 1300 366 587, probably 30 minutes on the line all up. Three of the CSAs were up to speed with the booking system, the 4th required referral to a colleague and I spent about 5 minutes on hold. Even though he told me the phone booking fee will be waived the 3500 pt debit still appeared on my activity statement today. This required another phone call today to refund - which it was within hours.

I had to mention ROQ7740 to 3 of the operators, and as another member has recently posted here they were surprised I had this info.

Is there any reason why you can't book this as 4 flights on the same call?

Booked one today and it took very little time as the CSA knew exactly what she was doing.

I would like to point out because it may be useful for others reading this thread, if you are not chasing SC's then a classic is certainly the way to go IMHO. Points cost generally the same but in my case the co-pay would have been $109.31 each instead of $295.10 each. Why spend the extra if you don't want the credits?

Dohh ! Just realised it is. Well done, I think you had a lucky break as WP release seats have always been Classic Awards only :)

Hi Princes Fiona, correct - that is return. I'm very surprised with the points, as it was more when I looked up the classic reward points. More $ than I hoped for, but it was so painless dare I say it!

I have two current multi-sector JASA's (domestic sector on each) to and from HKG which were 60K points each. One booked online and the other via telephone. The fees I paid IIRC were very similar to yours, so you have done very well indeed :cool:
I suspect this won't be easily repeatable

Surprised that you were able to convert a WP released Classic Award to a JASA. I had 2 x F (P) released for me as a WP for the route SYD-LAX-SYD. Tried hard to get the tickets booked as FASA, though the rep was adamant this wasn't possible. She even spoke to another colleague who confirmed it wasn't possible. Did not want to hang up and call back incase I lost the tickets.

Had some success with this process myself today, and it seems the staff handling these bookings are getting to know how we work quite well :)

Needed a one-way JASA P+P from PER to SYD close to Christmas to get my re-qual across the line. Direct U inventory was short, so ended up going PER-ADL in Y(V), and ADL-SYD in J (U). 50k pts and $437 cash. With the 50% DOM bonus it'll work out to 120 SC and 3.64/SC on cash outlay.

Not the best deal, but given the date booked I did reasonably ok given the limited U bucket availability.

I was dreading my first call to book over the phone - particularly as I'm in Germany. But Skype recorded my SYD - LAX PASA booking at 7 minutes and 14 seconds. It couldn't have been smoother and CSA Paul knew exactly what he was doing. 144,000 points plus $747 co pay and $30 credit card fee. Of course a $380 co pay would have been more appropriate if it's based on aircraft type. ;)

I am relieved I have successfully jumped the hurdle and only hope these bookings are here to stay.

I was also surprised. However, I have all sorts of dramas getting the ticket issued. (Emailed e-ticket). I had a call from QF Premium tonight and they have changed my Booking Ref and everything. I would assume the operator had made an error. Maybe it was a lucky break as Princess Fiona had initially thought. I will of course take it. Thanks :p

After spending ages looking at routings that would enable Mr Sarvo to achieve Gold and put me in the ballpark of maintaining Gold, I settled on BNE-xSYD-MEL MEL-HBT HBT-SYD (Classic cost 48,000 pp), my CSR had no problem understanding my request (ASA booked in U for Uniform), found all of my flights but the system returned 144,000 points.
I pointed out the discrepancy which she acknowledged immediately, and referred to her supervisor. Her supervisor advised it was a known fault in the system but it would take 3-4 weeks to rectify. If I went ahead, I will not be credited with the excess point charge. Has anyone else had this issue? She also advised that ASA s would not be around much longer. She was very nice and re-entered the itinerary - but to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this fault?

Edit: the 144,000 was the quote for two people so 72,000 pp

So, I go into a shop and find something that I want to buy. I know it should cost $48.

I take it to the cash register; its scanned and the price comes up as $144. I point out the discrepancy. The shop assistant says its a cash register fault, they know about it but the repair man can't come for a couple of weeks. If I want to buy the thing, I have to pay $144 and I won't get any refund, in spite of the fact that the $144 is only generated by a known fault.

SO this is how Qantas operates?

Report them to the 'consumer protection' organization in your state. The call would have been recorded, so the authorities should have some evidence to follow up on.

Report them. As you would any other merchant trying this type of act.

5 minutes 15 secs from dialling to completion on a domestic return. I must admit that I phoned the WP number rather than the special ASA number and spoke to someone who knew exactly what needed to be done and I knew what the cost was going to be but to do everything in that time including the card payment was fantastic.

Yes, had this problem earlier this week with a booking ADL-SYD returning SYD-MEL-ADL.
Had to change my return booking to a direct flight to get the JASA at Classic rates.

You may though get it for less but more cash.As posted I booked a MASA last weekend BNE-SYD-NRT.Classic was 72000 points,MASA 60000 + $120 more in "taxes".

When you say you booked a MASA...is that different to a JASA? in other words are you flying Business?

If you got that for 60k points what was the total $'s. Thats exactly the trip I want.

I called up a few weeks ago and said exactly "I would like to book a Classic Award fare as an Any Seat Award please", to which the operator said it was not possible and that to do a combination of Points + Card it had to be done online. I said okay, thanked her and then hung up.
Called back two minutes later and spoke to another operator and said "
I would like to book an Any Seat Award in U Class", she wasn't entirely sure but me on hold, when she came back I mentioned Right On Q 7740 which she said she was looking at and said she'd speak to her supervisor, flash forward 15 minutes...
MEL>SYD>ASP>SYD>CBR>MEL all booked for 70k + $594 for 280 SC, with DSC = 560SC

That is awesome! so basically $1 per SC and a few k points!

How do i get these double SC offers?
