re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

No, I simply identified that Classic Awards were available for the flight I wanted to book.
Thanks for that, does not look too bad then.
Phew, can continue collecting QF points

Thanks for showing us that (whilst we have to make a phone call) we can still book JASAs at the same rate as before the "sky fell in".

Happy to be one of the guinea pigs :p
I should say that SYD-HKG-SYD was one of those reasonably reliable routes where Classic Award availability generally meant a base rate ASA was available.
What will be interesting is what happens if/when Classic Awards are available online but the Call Centre says no to the same as an ASA
I guess we will start to find out soon enough

US flights would be a good test - they are so full and hard(er) to find seats...

No luck ex-SIN as of today. Will see again in a few days.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I wasn't prescient enough to keep notes on JASA pricing...

I think it would be extremely helpful if people who are successful with the new phone-based method could give points + cash information (just like Princess Fiona did so helpfully above; thanks!), and if that could eventually be assembled in one place, so we can go into the phone conversations forewarned and forearmed.

Two sleeps since the news, but I'm still angry and find myself automatically strategising ways to fly *less* on QF... without wanting to extrapolate too much beyond my own situation, I see this as a huge loss of goodwill. A deliberate decision to reduce access and, more importantly, transparency? With that lack of transparency extending to whether or not the currently opaque phone-based method will be continued beyond the next few months? Why would I chase "lifetime" anything under such circumstances?

AND already Velocity is sending out emails offering 15 % less points to now be used on award bookings !!! Wonder what else JB will fire up to pinch long term Qantas FF's whilst they are upset ??

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Only if Velocity awards continue to earn sc's in three days time

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Yes SYD TSV rtn next June for JASA SC run
48000 points plus $350 in taxes. Up about $70 on taxes this month

For three months at least, after that its going to be a no!

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

I tried twice this morning. There was little problem getting through on the number.
The first operator didn't have a clue and quoted me the Points+Pay price. When I questioned the number of points she put me on hold to a supervisor but I gave up holding after 10 minutes.
The second one had heard of "marginal" ASA's and told me that I should be able to book it on line. I could hear a frantic rustling of paper in the background. Again, I was put on hold while she went off to check the procedure. She then gave it another shot before I was put on hold again. After 10 minutes she got back to me and started entering things her end but after another 5 minutes told me that she would have to get back to me by email or phoning me later......I'm waiting.

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

Hi Guys

Sorry if this question has been asked before, I've searched but can't find the answer. Thanks to the great information learnt on this site I have used and have some forward bookings of JASAs and wish to book some more soon, so I am following this thread with great interest.

What I don't understand is what X Z U P Y means. In the past this hasn't been of much interest to me but now it seems I need to know what this means in order to phone the marginal any seat award desk. As it seems not everyone is finding someone on that desk who know anything about booking these tickets, I think that it will be advantageous to know all there is to know before tackling this.

Thanks for educating me.

These are "fare buckets" or "classes" into which Classic Awards book.

Those letters are the seat bucket codes for calssic awards, ie the cheapies. You want to find an ASA that books into one of those except for Y!

You shouldn't need to feed the agent any fare buckets.
Just identify a classic award online, when you ring tell the agent the classic award details and ask for it to be booked as an Any Seat Award with co-payment of taxes.
If all else fails HUACA :D

re: Has anyone had success with the call-up method for "Marginal" xASA's?

On the first day of the changeover I called the centre and was on hold for 20 minutes and then booked 2 x JASA's for myself and my husband. the lady in the call centre was fantastic and said she had to learn all of this herself so we were on the phone for just over an hour. Luckily I had print outs of the flights that I wanted (should have booked them on line the night before) anyway booked Mel, Per, KTA return for 2 people for 144,000 points and about $1060.00 and then a second one for Mel, Per, Broome return for same points and similar $ value...luckily I had the flight numbers so it made it a bit easier and also knew the points value and $$ had I booked on line. I needed 550 SC's to get to Plat and only the next day I realised that she had booked me coming home from Broome via Sydney which left me 10 SC's short, panic, but called the centre last night at about 7.00pm and they fixed up straight away for me with no extra charges, so post August 12th we should both be platinum members for the first time !! It is only after the great help on here and Oz Beachbabe input with assistance with AA flights that we made gold earlier this year doing a run from Honolulu to SJU. I am lucky that I have a patient other half who is willing to come along for the ride. Thanks to all but very disappointed that we cannot search anymore on line, it was a bit of a hobby for me to do that during quiet times in work. Next stop is to book our OWE award fares in J for Europe next year and will endeavour to get that done over the next few months before any more changes.

Sounds like the existing offer that ends in 30 June.

Thanks. Just one more question. I presume I need to ask the agent about cancellation conditions.
