Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Sucess! With an awesome agent.

BNE-PER-KTA 27th December 36,000 Points and $284.00.

Very happy but sad as it'll be the last JASA!

Glad you finally got a CSR who knew what they were doing.

I've just booked another JASA for Mrs_O and I for later this year. Sadly it will earn at the new simpler and fairer rate, so what was 120SCs is now 80SCs. Painless call which took under 8 minutes.

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

So have the MASA/JASA gone?

I have rung twice and been told both times that the MASA's are no longe bookable in the system and that I now can only book classic award or points plus pay? I thought they ended in June/July?

Very frustrating if that is the case!

I can assure you that they are not telling you the truth. These are still bookable. You just have to keep phoning until you get someone who will book it.

Yep, Pilotdude09 had success on call number 3.

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Month booked | Month travelled | Cabin (Y/W/J or F) | Route | Points cost | Co-pay $^ | Classic co-pay $~ | Max points cost~ | SCs earned

May 14 | Nov 14 | J/F | CBR-SYD-DXB | 144,000 | $717.13 + $30 credit card fee | $398.80 | ? | 310SC (new rate)

Probably my second-last mASA booking.

As of now the fare is fully refundable and can be changed free of charge if P class is available.

I asked what would happen post June 30, and after some consultation, the answer came back as: still refundable, but would reprice as "fare of the day" (i.e. expensive) even if P class is available.

So I guess if P class were indeed available, best you could do would be to cancel for a full refund and then book a new classic award.

I'm not entirely sure the legitimacy of QF changing fare conditions after purchase. Sure, if it needs to be re-ticketed, but a date change re-validation should be under the original fare conditions should that booking class be available.

I would take the opinion of advice from QF call centre staff with a grain of salt if past performance is any indicator.

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

LAX-SYD U fare Mon 4 May, 1 UASA and 1 classic award booked :). 192,000 plus $1,100

Return leg of honeymoon. Without all the credit card tips on this website would never have had the points. Well worth the 12 months of points earned.

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Anyone else found the 'taxes' price going through the roof?

A few weeks ago I booked a flight BNE-SYD and paid the usual ~$110 copay.. now ive called up twice and the return legs are pricing out at $200! From memory they have always been around the $110 mark - am I missing something? Or a last grasp for extra cash knowing we will be booking these? Am I too cynical? haha

Edit: After further discussing with the agent - he confirmed the copay price for that particular flight had increased from $218 to $311 - hence the $100 increase. We both agreed it was 'interesting' they made those moves 1 month before the end of the mASA.. given we would likely be wanting to book a few! Nice little cash grab by QF!

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Yesterday I scraped together all of our points, even borrowed some from the kids whose flights I normally pay for anyway, lucky for me they also buy wine from Epiqure ;).

Rang up the Premium desk to book one last mASA for me and Mrs Dalek. Three attempts to get through to Premium and the call kept dropping back to the normal line. Eventually one of the operators, Tracey, walked around to the Premium and told me they were a bit short staffed at the moment. It was probably a bad day to ring with the announcement of the call centre closures, I imagine morale was pretty poor yesterday.

Anyway Tracey offered to help and after sorting out some other flight issues for me she set about booking 2 First award flights from LHR to MEL in November this year. She knew what to do and everything went smoothly though I was taken aback by 2 x $1395.24 co-payment. This seemed a bit high, no explanation offered other than the taxes. Maybe michaele is correct about a last minute gouge on these flights by Qantas.

That's mostly cleaned me out of points and it will be my first (and possibly last) Qantas flight in first class. It will also give us both a good headstart at retaining Platinum next year.

That's actually a fairly accurate payment IME.
I paid ~$1450 for P class LHR-MEL-SYD booked in March.

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

I suspect what people are seeing is an increase in taxes for the Classic Award. My BNE-TSV rtn was $10 more, i.e. $5 per pax, for both the Classic and the JASA. That tells me (from my sample of 1 :)) that the points and SCs are just a bolt on cost a la Jetstar bundles.

Thanks Princess Fiona, its nice to know I haven't paid over the odds. I had looked through the ASA bookings spreadsheet as well as looking at the flights Classic Co-payment (in UK pounds) and wasn't expecting it to be quite so high.

I paid the same and like you was taken aback given the flight over I booked a couple of weeks prior was $1,000 less (two passengers)

Take a look at this post http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ne-had-success-call-51720-77.html#post1044616 for the explanation.....it all comes down APD I.E. tax. + a few hundred bucks on the side for QF.

You're welcome :)
The booking ex-LHR was approx $500 more than the equivalent SYD-MEL-LHR

Re: Sucessful ASA Bookings booked at classic rates Reference Guide

Taxes are always higher out of LHR then into LHR.
LHR taxes are higher than other European countries and I understand the tax depends on your last departure city excluding transit cities. If you are actually staying in UK, that does not help you. But if you are transiting in London only, the tax will be lower. I previously modified a FASA LHR - Melbourne to a CDG -LHR - MEL and got a refund due to lower taxes.
The taxes you listed are what I usually pay, depending on exchange rate.

Is not so much "LHR taxes" but the UK "Airline Passenger Duty" which can be up to £188 for journies departing the UK.

How do you modify it so you get an ASA from CDG-LHR? QF doesn't fly there and you can only get an ASA on QF/JQ metal.

Something strange happening in their last days. I have had 2 quotes for Jasa BNE -SYD at 32000 + $380 instead of previous $210.
