Has anyone booked to fly in December?

As soon as I saw Qantas had opened up bookings, I grabbed some seats to Fiji. I know there's every chance my plans will get Covid-ed (again) but damn it felt good to book something. Anyone other optimists booked anything?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Not that ballsy, but did today book return to LHR in May next year on QFF.

Heaps - but domestic only, hoping all the state premiers buckle under the public push for us all to be home for Christmas

Zero chance for me. If I were to it would be with points. I don't feel the need to be another unsecured creditor for QF. Personally, I don't think it will happen either.

Personally I agree. All these empty promises that get snatched away at the last minute because……. (Insert excuse)

I don't see it as an empty promise. QF are being quite deliberate in trying to force the government's hand here. Their aim is to get Australian's annoyed enough with a Federal election coming up which would put pressure on the government. Just my opinion of course.

That and of course cash flow is king, even if the money needs to be returned at some future date.

I can't thank all the December 2021 pioneers enough for blazing the trail. We are booked (paid) on QF1/2 in March/April, and feeling more confident every day.

No. Sick of chasing refunds!

The same, booked plenty both domestic and international, flown about an eighth of what was booked and paid for. Have all my refunds and happy to wait to until I see international happening again without issue.

Domestic I now only book the day before or day I want to travel.

We've booked domestic flights using points, to go from Canberra up to Hervey Bay to spend Christmas with my parents, and then hop up to Cairns for our Wedding Anniversary. Who knows whether it will happen, but at least it's easy to get the points and charges back quickly. Fingers crossed.

Scheduled to depart SYD to the UK in week before Christmas. Booked in late Aug having watched events continuously since previous UK-bound bookings for Mar, June & Sep 2020 were cancelled.

A paid QF ticket. Limited choice obviously but there is some basic risk management in the following:
  • Outbound on EK metal, using a carrier/flight that has been operating through the pandemic – so fewer operational issues attached to a December restart of international travel;
  • Inbound on QF via SIN, expecting QF to be functioning well enough by the time I return, preferring SIN as the lowest risk transit port and maximising likelihood of qualifying for home quarantine.
Trip is for increasingly pressing family reasons. If it becomes clear the outbound ban won’t be dropped before my booked flight in December I look forward to being one of the last to have to take a run at the ABF hurdles to gain an exemption.

BNE-SIN mid-Dec SQ
SIN-BNE early Jan SQ
BNE-CDG late May EK
ZRH-BNE early Jun SQ

All points/miles redemptions and booked speculatively several months ago. Living in hope but want to be ready if/when it’s possible.

We’re sniffing around for a December departure. Thinking London or Munich for Xmas, back around New Years so just a short trip. Haven’t pulled any pins yet and am hoping for more clarity on home quarantine. We have a staffordshire bull terrier who is inherently lazy, but no doubt will want daily walking when we get back, which we won’t be able to do, so we need to factor that in as well. If its 3 or 4 days, no real drama, anything more however wont really be fair on him.

Everyone’s circumstances and priorities will be different. The detail of home quarantine (duration, testing, compliance assurance) is way down my list of concerns though of course shorter is preferable, so long as it’s demonstrably effective in detecting and preventing transmission of anything nasty I may pick up overseas or inflight.

I am fortunate to have a setup at home that could have been purpose-built but appreciate that HQ is going to pose problems for many affected households. A less serious consideration: jet-lag after long-haul travel renders me not quite human for at least a week so my family here has (rather unkindly) suggested it should be a permanent arrangement that I do at least a week in isolation on return from overseas trips.
