Haneda hotel for overnight layover?

I'm currently on a JAL flight SYD-HND and the connecting flight is the next day. This is August next year.
I know this has been discussed but years ago - what is a good choice of hotel for overnight?
Criteria:

• Fast connections
• Cheap
• Nice
• Western Japanese dinner (like, something we'd have here, not pieces of random animals)

We're in J so breakfast isn't a concern, unless the JAL lounge brekky is not as good.

The JAL City Haneda seems the obvious choice for distance, shuttle and price but is there something that can better it?

We usually overnight in the Royal Park hotel which is attached to the International terminal.Have dinner in the Terminal restaurant area.The entrance to the hotel is to the left of the check in as you walk in.Quirky and small rooms but so convenient.
However often full so when that happens the JAL City Haneda is a good option.

The JAL Flounge in Haneda pre covid was excellent.Haven't been in the J lounge.

Have dinner in the Terminal restaurant area.

There’s some good options in t the international terminal. However I think the pick of the restaurants in Haneda is Kanda Sarugakucho Tenmasa on level 5 of terminal 2 (ANA domestic). It’s a tempura place, I’ve had the course there and it is pretty good. It scores 3.67 on tabelog, which is reasonably high by japanese standards.

Do you have any further definitions for these? What time is your flight out in the morning?, what do you class as cheap?, nice?. There are many Japanese hotels near HND and not to far from the metro lines. As @drron suggested the royal park is a good convenient option you could also jump on the monorail to Hamamatsuchō station (20-25 minutes) and the InterContinental is within walking distance. As for 'Western Japanese dinner (like, something we'd have here, not pieces of random animals) western Japanese is similar but not the same as Japanese food, most 7-11s in Japan have better sushi than some of the sushi places in AU. Japanese chefs normally specialise in cooking one style, type, ingredient (beef, eel) etc and stick to that. When looking for places to eat in Japan I subscribe to view the longer the queue the better the food will be. I am pretty sure I have not eaten random pieces of animals.

The flights are 17:05 arrival and 10:40 departure.
Nice is not a pod or dormitory and a bathroom in the room.
Cheap is under $150AUD
My dinner comments show my lack of knowledge of Japanese culture (and culture in general)
Based on the comments so far, the JAL City seems to be my choice.

Plus one for the Royal Park Hotel. At the terminal, nice little bar there for drinks and Japanese nibbles, or downstairs for the food court offerings.

I‘ve overnighted in Japan before, and had never been to the country.

I was keen to make the most of it so stayed close to the centre and got the subway to Shinjuku for dinner and drinks.

Japanese BBQ would be my recommendation for dinner, it’s delicious and inoffensive to a western palette. I found a great little bar that was cooking BBQ and nobody spoke a word of English. It was a great cultural experience.

The hotel room was tiny with no view but who cares, I was just there to sleep. It wasn’t expensive.

There is a hotel airside and whilst its more expensive (About $250 ) it avoids you entering the country and the potential $160 Covid test. I'm flying JAL SYD-HND-LHR next year too and my reading of the current regulations is that as a vaxed pax, staying airside and transiting, i don't need the Covid test for either Japan or UK.
Hopefully the Cathay lounge has reopened by then too so you have two oneworld lounge options for food.

That's something I hadn't considered. I am forever hopeful QF will let 2 x J reward seats go on QF25, so we can just do an overnight flight and transfer on arrival saving all this hassle.
We aren't going till August so maybe the craziness will have reduced somewhat by then.
Were going HND-HEL-OSL and I think the Scandinavians are a bit more relaxed with their rules.

@kelvedon and @smckay seems like a few of us are heading to the UK or EU via JP next year. I have one booking ADL-SYD-SIN-HND-LHR just to avoid having to go land side. I have another booking HND-LHR and will request a seat to be released on QF25 although this is currently my back up plan it would also be my prefered option.

I give you my word I will not request for 23 Aug on QF25, I am travelling in Sep. Do not be disappointed if you do not see rewards seats become available on the flight, QF25/26 seems to be one of the routes that getting J rewards seats on is difficult at the best of times.

Fully unnerstand. We have JAL J rewards currently booked but with the overnight layover I'd prefer to have a short transit than a 'stop'.
Any premium rewards seat is difficult with no serious status. Too bad there's not a "I pay cash for every flight I take and only fly Qantas" status. In the hard world of business I guess that's Silver :/

Stayed many times and is perfect. I always take from the plane a English breakfast tea bag and a capsule of milk because only green tea is available in the room. Vending machines for beer and soft drinks are located on each floor.

There is also a good food court area outside the entrance on the top floor of the terminal with nice views.

If you're after a cheap clean room for transit the Toyoko Inn chain has a couple of hotels at Haneda with a free shuttle bus.
