Guesting strangers into the lounge

I will be happy to guest AFFers into the lounge, just don't talk to me afterwards... lets just go our separate ways :)

Agreed, I've paid for my lounge access including guest allowance. Given the massive numbers of paid guests I don't use per year, it'd take a long time to reduce the value. Do guest spots that can't be used have any value, at all?
I think when the airlines determine their lounge capacity and costs, they would not be including a guest spot for every single pax since they're well aware that not everyone will be using these spots. If the number of guests increases, then costs will rise, and pax would eventually have to pay for that additional costs, either directly or indirectly.

I have been guested and would guest other AFF members, not sure how I would go with strangers. Would be a bit awkward walking around the terminal and asking random strangers if they wanted to come to the lounge with me... Can see a NoNews headline about a dodgy character being spotted at an airport.

And as for strangers asking... no thank you

I was wondering - has anyone invited a random person/people from the airport terminal into the lounge as their guest?

I often wonder if I should do this as I head to the lounge with an unclaimed guest spot. Sometimes I will guest in friends/family/travelling companions. I also usually post my flight details on the AFF lounge meetups forum, and over the past few years have guested numerous AFF members into various lounges.

But often I find that I'm using the lounge on my own and feel that the guest spot is going to waste. I have been tempted to offer it to a random stranger in the terminal that I happen to pass on the way to the lounge. But I'm not really sure who you would offer it to, or how to approach them.

Does anyone have any experience here? Is the gesture appreciated?

I have often been at meetings and arrived at the airport with one or two people over the quota I can invite into the lounge. I have on a couple of occasions waited outside of the lounge with my "guests" and asked single people going into the lounge if they will take one of my guests into the lounge with them so that the group of us can continue our discussions in the lounge. I have received some strange looks but no one has turned my request down and I always thank the strangers every so graciously. I am not sure that I would approach anyone but I have asked the person who I sat next to on the first leg of a flight if they have access to the First Club as they are welcome to come in with me. Good luck with your kind offer.

I would be very wary of approaching strangers. Maybe if you got chatting to someone outside; however I have learnt my lesson about conversing with strangers, impulsively suggesting a lass call us if she ever came to Melbourne.....OMG she was just about a bunny-boiler (reference to 'Fatal Attraction' there). Ever since, MrMac reminds me to remove my Moron Magnet when we travel. So no, no guests into the lounge

One thing to guest a stranger into a lounge another to give a stranger your phone number and asking them to call you.

At smaller airports like OOL, HBA, CFS I often see poor buggers - male and female - "lounging" on the floor charging their phones or whatever. Have often thought it would be a nice gesture but, like the majority of those on here, don't want to seem like a weirdo fronting up to some random so just keep walking.

In essence, I have no problem doing it but the right situation has never arisen. Anyway, first post for me and off to check out the Lounge Meetups page to see if I can meet some new friends.

A couple of years back, I gave 2 QP passes to an older couple in the non-status queue at SYD before a flight to NRT. They seemed quite underwhelmed

Many people think it's a scam... Often at check in counter I've approach 5 pax and no one took up the offer. What works best Ive found it at the front of the entrance of the lounge you ask people passing by if they want to check the lounge/or what's behind those doors and have been successful. Other time I was in LAX with a Flounge guesting approached a QF staff directing people to the right queue to check in saying I have a guest spot available. He was stumped that it he spoke to 5-6 before someone took up an offer. Often times the people who took up the offer will sincerely thank you for making their day.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Is it this sort of thinking that packs the lounges? Why there was actually a QUEUE to get into the MEN'S toilet at the BNE business lounge this morning? Queues for lavatories should only happen at major sporting events, and only for the women. But it is happening in my lounges!! AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHh..............

The Brisbane business lounge seems to go over capacity in the mornings (standing room only), last time I was there, I was tempted to turn left to see how the commoners lived in the QP.
