Long time reader, but recent member and first time poster here, coming to you from what is still the jewel of the Indian Ocean despite recent economic difficulties!
Been a QFF member the longest, but not having a job which requires much travel, I've only clocked up a modest 134k points (mostly from leisure flying but other sources more recently). Got to Silver for a year once after a RTW trip and following my beloved Fremantle Dockers to all their away games, but otherwise Bronze. Never flown VA in my life, but I have recently joined Velocity thanks to the Flybuys association as I think it's a reasonable place to park those points so they don't expire until I get a specific goal in mind.
QR are my preferred option to Europe - in fact, my next holiday is my very first flights in J with QR in a couple of months as I take my mother overseas for the first time in her life. That should be enough to get me to Privilege Club Silver, but I'm worried that might be it unless I can somehow swing a J trip on them each year!
I also have a Skywards membership from my first overseas trip in 2003 with EK, but haven't used it since. Also signed up recently with SQ, EY and CX to give some additional options.
I am a fan of Everyday Rewards and Flybuys, as my grocery spend is reasonable and it's money I'm spending anyway. Might not be much, but it's a good method to keep the QFF and Velocity balances ticking over.
I know what most will say next - what about a card? Well, I own my own home but have plans to knockdown and rebuild later this year, so top priority for me is getting a loan for that before I start affecting my credit score with card applications. I don't do much upscale spending, so something like an Amex Essential looks appealing and maybe a Qantas Discovery as well...but I'm open to suggestions when the time comes.
