I'm working at the GP this year and we just had VH-OJQ do a flyover at 500f with the gear down... Damm impressive from the ground!

Edit: Here is a shot of it, not the view i had (It flew straight over me, but i had no camera).

It was cool, went right over my house real low, but not quite as impressive as the CX flyby 3 weeks ago ;)

So that's what it was! My dishes and glasses were rattling...

Either that or it was the 3 F/A-18's that performed about 20 mins earlier!

You wonder what it would cost QF to do this sort of thing, but I guess good brand PR to complement their sponsorship at the event. I guess judging by how busy the zoo (oops I mean Qantas Club) was at MEL last night as well as the heavy loadings on most flights out of MEL, they'd be doing alright out of the GP.

F/A-18 demonstration on Sunday was very, very impressive. The 747 flyover (complete with "wave") was great too. :)

A mate and I were wondering - would this have been an empty MEL-MEL flight, or would the 747 have been coming from somewhere, full of passengers?

Apparently at similar events (footy, cricket etc..) where they've done a flyover, it's been a flight full of passengers, coming from somewhere like LHR. Anyone know?

Cheers,
- Febs.

PS: KISS were incredible. Such showmen. EXCELLENT concert! :)

This one was an empty MEL-MEL flight, using a QF6xx_ flight number. VH-OJQ arrived that morning as QF10, and departed a few hours after the flyover as the QF9.

I'm not sure it was empty.

If I recall correctly, QF uses the flight to provide an experience to underprivilegd or sick children.
