Were I to contribute to this thread, I'd ask should I be saying,
"Were I to contribute to this thread...." or
"If I were to contribute to this thread...." or
"If I was to contribute to this thread.....".
I've seen some Facebook quizzes saying that using "If I was...." in the subjunctive tense is correct, and that "If I were...." is incorrect.
But when I've Googled it, I came up with sites saying that using "If I was...." in the subjunctive tense is incorrect, and that "If I were...." is correct.
Logically, as the preposition "If" creates a subjunctive form, shouldn't "was" be the appropriate verb to be a true alternative to the known correct form of the subjunctive, namely, "Were I to ........."?
Otherwise "If I were...." is a redundant version of "Were I to...".
Were there to be any thoughts, I'd appreciate them.
