Hi,

I was one of the unlucky people to have been onboard that Etihad flight from Melbourne to Abu Dhabi onto Dublin. The worst flight I have ever been on but I must commend the crew for their professionalism throughout the flight.

However, I missed my onward flight to Dublin, but was re-routed through London, arriving home 12 hours later, missing a day at work.

I have since received an email from Etihad offering me a goodwill gesture of 15,000 miles for which I have to go back to them to accept it. I don't know what the norm in a circumstance like this is but would have have thought airmiles of 15,000 isn't exactly alot after the ordeal we were put through.

What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks,

M

I've received more miles for less. I'd e replying kindly and suggesting something a bit more..

Welcome to AFF MirC :)

I also think the miles offer is a bit light on. And having to get back to them to accept seems a way for them to avoid giving out the miles to those who can't / can't be bothered to get back to them. Cheap.

Also, there is a thread on this flight here: http://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/travel-news/etihad-flight-diverted-smh-58076.html

Would be great if you could go over there and recount what actually happened, as far as you are aware. My greatest concern (from the newspaper reports only) is that after the flight landed in Jakarta, pax were allowed to re-board with only another carry-on search, and everyone knew the arsonist was back on board too!

Only 15000 points? That's rubbish! I'd expect at least twice that or a flight voucher.

It's a pity the arsonist was never caught as I feel that they should be footing the bill for all the inconvenience caused.

I think 15,000 miles is their 'opening offer', they expect a lot of the customers will accept that without thinking but it's not nearly enough for what you would have gone through. I would suggest asking for a lot more than this.
