As mentioned in my posts on other threads, I am moving on from Qantas. I'm disillusioned with them. It's a sad day but I have decided not to renew Qantas club, and to stop collecting points through Woolworths, Acquire, DJ Amex etc. My family do multiple long haul flights annually- Australia to Europe and to US. Also multiple NZ trips to family there. Hubby and I also attend a few international medical conferences at other destinations. Our internal flights are less frequent and less of an issue so we are happy to use Virgin especially with the NZ and Singapore links. So, having had good feedback about Etihad, and with the Etihad Coles partnership which awards points for spend regardless of products, we are going to give them a go. Is anyone else feeling the same way?

Not me, I'm happy with Qantas, they get me where I need to go with minimal fuss. I get what I pay for and anything above that is a bonus. As long as I can keep redeeming points for international J awards I'm a happy camper.

I got the same attitude to Qantas a number of years ago. But I didn't cut my nose to spite the face ... I still fly enough to maintain QFF plat, but that's mainly through volume of business flying as its convenient. They aren't my first choice for international leisure flying.

If I was to boycott Qantas for another airline, it probably wouldn't be Etihad. Nice relationship with AA (as I've benefited from :) ) and VA but with all their flaws, the larger airline alliances work for me.

But each to their own; ya gotta put the pin down somewhere and one could do a lot worse than EY.

Do keep us posted with your experiences in comparison to QF.

Only problem with Etihad is connecting flights in AUH. What a dump... Even flying F, I still find its one of the worst airport for transfer. I would recommend switching to SQ.

Which is only a problem until the mid field terminal opens next year.

I wouldn't - SQ all huff and puff - refurb of TPR now delayed until late 2017 - SQ promise the world - deliver Tasmania - not up to scratch IMHO!
and Qantas doesn't? From my investigations they all seem to sell snake oil. Promise the world and often don't deliver.

Have to admit to an irrational liking for Qantas and will continue to put some of my dollars their way, but SQ looks very attractive as well. EK and EY seem to have a good F product, but their service recovery if things go wrong seems pretty dubious.

You don't mention which class you normally travel. If J, you will not be disappointed with the move. There is a massive chasm between QF J and EY J.

The J lounge in AUH isn't bad, but no where close to what QR has in DOH.

Love to hear your thoughts though in future about how you go with EY.

Whilst I have had a look at your rant about being re-routed onto UA due to a delay, I am wondering if you have done your research as to how EY (and the other ME Airlines for that matter) handle irregular ops or feedback from customers?

If you wish for your ORC and refund claim to be honoured, have you tried completing your feedback to Qantas in a clear and concise manner without the emotional and other (i.e cc'ing and name dropping executives in) fluff?

A lot of us have been disillusioned with Qantas in the past.

Etihad is not the solution to the problem....

I read that post and the OP was put on UA transPac after their domestic UA flight was late resulting in them missing their QF flight. I would have thought it would be UA they should be disillusioned with?

A lot of people think that joining another frequent flyer program has to be at the expense of their current one. There is no 'one size fits all' program so while one ff program may be better for for upgrades, another program may be better for awards in the form of less points and/or lower taxes.

Ho Hum, just another dummy spit. Something goes wrong, slam the fist onto the table and blame QF for the end of the world as we know it.

Mods, do we need a special thread for all these....I've had enough of QF....type posts

But EY F on A380 >>>> QF F on A380...if you intend to fly OS on EY only, every flight will be via AUH which is not necessarily a good thing.
