I'm going to be travelling in Business on both aircraft and so far I have chosen these seats:

Emirates A380-800 (V1) - 11K
seatguru.com/airlines/Emirates_Airlines/Emirates_Airlines_Airbus_A380.php

Qantas 747-400RR (V2) - 3A
seatguru.com/airlines/Qantas_Airways/Qantas_Airways_Boeing_747-400RR_V2.php

My ideal seat would be:
  • Quiet
  • Window (with view ideally not covered by the wings)
  • Away from the toilet and galley

Any thoughts from those lucky enough to travel regularly in Business :)?

In that QF747 config, I find that row 3 is a little cramped because of the E and F seats in that row. For that reason I usually choose row 2 which has no seats in the middle.

Oh, and good luck getting a turn on the toilet in that config! Some brainiac decided to remove the toilets from the pointy end of the plane.

These are just my observations on the flights I have done, many will have other opinions.

On Emirates, anything between 7 & 12 are above the wing and not have really good downward view (if the view floats your boat). If you want good view the further back is better ( I have 18 if day & over land). 7 gets food and drink service first, 18 gets towards the end. 18 is closer to the bar but can start to get noisy if you want to sleep and others want to play.

Row 3 on the 747 is usually in the smaller cabin at the front and can be quite and private.

Anywhere, on any plane, on any airline, in J, is better than Y. Enjoy which ever you end up flying with.

On EK A380 7, 9 or 11K (or A) are all good, and get service first for meals if you want a window view less wing.

8, 10, & 12 are J or B options and not as great in both reduced leg room to make way for the gap for A or K seat pax to get to their seats.

While there is a lav in front of 7K through the curtains, often is frowned upon to use it with all business PAX using the 4 lavs in the back after the bar - but personally just use it unchallenged so far when in my flavourate 9K.

7K is quite good as you have more area to work on and put a laptop during meal service and is growing on me in that regard.

It is true that you don't get a good downwards view in front of the wings due to the curve of the aircraft - just a sideways view.

Further back is ok and you get a more downwards view, and you have shorter distance to the lavs and bar ..... but your meal service can be as much as an hour behind 7K, and you have every other PAX in J, all 76 of you, potentially walking past you as they all walk to the back for the lavs or bar. And the biggest issue in being in the back is that every meal is walked from the J galley right in the back, past the lavs. They only walk two trays at a time, and each pax has two trays per service, so you have a lot of traffic during meal service plus the risk of a trip and tray in your lap as I have had when in 22G but if you get a 23 A or K would personally be better than any B, D, G, or J seat anywhere in EK A380 J.

Hi eric2011, does that mean from seat 14K I would be able to get a decent downward view not obscured by the wings?

IMO. Correct, anywhere between rows 14 & 26 there is nothing between you and the ground. 7 to 11 are above the wing and 12 is marginal with some wing view and some ground. Rows 1 to 4 ( F class ) are also clear but you are sitting a few inches from the windows in the suite and it hard to look directly down.

You also have 3 camera views to pick from as well. 1 from the tail, 1 from the front somewhere (might only be when the wheels are down, cant remember) and one pointing down as well.
